Default PCCB Brake Pad question

Hi all, I know I've seen the pad thickness spec of a new set, but can't seem to come across it on my searches. I know you need to change at 50% thickness, but how thick are they new? What's the average that you have needed to replace mileage wise?

Thanks!

new pad thickness is about 12mm so discard around 6mm

It all depends how you drive which will change the rate the pads need to be changed

I would look at the backing plate and when the pad material equals the backing plate is when I would change.

Porsche document WM 4600TW Technical data/Brake wear limit - 911 Turbo/GT2/GT2RS/GT3/GT3 RS, page 8/9 for PCCB brakes gives the thickness for the front and rear pads when new at 'approximately 12mm', as stated by others. The wear limit is also given in this document at 2mm for both front and rear.
I think there could be requirements for certain track related events that mandate a minimum pad thickness of 50% but the factory wear limit is 2mm.
For me, 2mm is just too close to that pricey rotor so I am looking at several sites now (at about 50% remaining pad) for the best pricing. Currently Peoria Porsche has the front pads for $397 and the rears for $448 followed closely by Sonnen at $401/$452 for the 997-351-948-01 and 997-352-947-02. If anyone finds these OEM Porsche pads cheaper, please let us know.

2mm is way to close. You are just asking from issues with running the pads that low

Thanks Bill for posting the factory measurement, that's what I recall finding too. 2mm is close, but realistically as long as you have any pad material against the rotor (and no backing material), the rotor doesn't know the difference. Mine are at 5mm or so and I'm looking for replacements soon also.

The rotors know when you're driving hard and they heat up - less pad means less heat dissipation, which I don't think is great for PCCB?

THIS.

You want to change the pads sooner than later because of heat. The rotors will be "life time" if you treat them right. Dont be cheap with PCCB.

If your pads are at 5mm change them. Pads are cheaper than new rotors
