Default Any R8 or AMG GTS owners??

Looking to add an R8 V10 or an AMG GTS to my garage.

Anyone own one or owned one? Thoughts on driving experience and reliability greatly appreciated.

I have not owned one but I have a couple customers that I work on their r8’s.

With the v10 the biggest issue I have seen are ac compressors go bad at low miles and I’m talking like 4-5k.

also coolant leaks at low mileage. Normally water pump and thermostat o rings.

as far as driving them I don’t really like the feel and how
much good there is compared to the 911s but a good raw power car coming from the v10.

I have only driven the gated manual cars so I have no input on the e gear. I think the manual shifts nicely and smooth

Thx... I guess it's good things go bad early. Did the listed repairs require an engine drop?

I'm keeping my Porsche's .... I'm justing looking to add something different.

OMG... we can't possibly decide this for you since your style is your style but if it was me, I MUCH prefer the look of the MB AMG GTS. I saw a bunch of them at the AMG factory a few months ago in Germany. To die for. Nothing wrong with the Audi but I'm just not an Audi guy. Plus, if you buy an AMG car you get this for free (a track day with a great buffet lunch at 1 of 4 US tracks) within 1 year of buying it. I'm doing my track day on 4/27. So excited and nervous about it. You get to drive a bunch of AMG cars, one may be... the GT R.

No engine stays in on the v10 for most repairs. The 4.2 v8s are worse to work on.

Compressor job on a v8 is like 27 hours. V10 its 5.5 hours

I'm just look for long term experience compared to the 911 ... reliability... and driving experience.. I don't expect someone to say get this.

Those are hard to tell after a short drive.

I have been researching both also....been leaning towards the AMG GT S, but I have noticed a lot of Lemon branded titled cars out there. Makes me wonder is there were some issues in the early years that were then corrected. The R8 compressor problems from what I have read are inherent in both v8 and v10 cars. V8 requires an engine drop while on the v10 it does not. The bigger issue for those cars are the struts. I believe they leak and fail even with low mileage and Audi never bothered with an updated part, so only real solution is to go coil-over and disable the adjustable dampening feature.

The AMG GTS is a work of art, and fast AF. But.. owning a benz without a warranty is not for the faint of heart.. Especially THAT benz.

If you've got the cabbage for the v10 r8, just get the Huracan... my .02.

Killing me smalls... on the AMG. It's full of problems?

I'm looking at used cars... I hate drastic depreciation. As for R8 V10, an equivalent Huracan manual is a little old.
