Default Who Has High Mileage with Mods?

I know I know, I broke the cardinal rule of "Thou shall never actually drive thy Turbo" but I was wondering who all has high mileage cars that are pushing out bigger hp numbers on stock engine. I'm at 72k miles and the engine still purs like new, but I have been toying with the idea of going to larger turbos and injectors once I can afford them. Goal would be around 700hp to the wheels on E85, while running 93 90% of the time.

Has anyone really experience engine failures? I plan to take this car to the grave and see if it outlasts me, which as a pilot-skydiver-motorcycle racer seems likely , but just wondering if I am asking for trouble pumping out more power that I currently have. I drive my car hard. I don't track it, but plan to start.

Not seeing the issue here, my Turbos are 48K miles and 62K miles respectively, the 48K one is tuned is tuned with headers and runs perfectly fine. Lots of life left in these motors I would not hesitate to mod them and drive another 100K

No issue, I am just wondering who is running high horsepower on stock engines and getting past 100-150k miles no issue. Hopefully nothing happens to my engine, and if it does, i will more thank likely just pay for a 3.8l build

568,000 miles on 996 turbo. username T2. Same basic engine as 997. I think he has ICs only.

I think that besides the clutch, the problem with he 997.1 seems to be the cam slippage, which some seem to think happens sooner with modified cars. Possibly because modified cars are driven harder than stock ones, that’s usually why they’re modified I guess. The mechanicals of the power plant are pretty stout, but complicated. They seem to be good for high 500 to mid 600whp on the lower hp end for quite some time with a good tune.

Ideally I would be about 650 awhp/tq on pump gas. Higher with the occasional e85 tank. I think that's the final goal for my car performance wise. I like being able to take off, but I would love being able to scare myself with the drop of a foot

That is amazing. I have seen his posts over the years. Wonder how he racks up so many miles?

How about just bore out to a 4.0. No replacement for displacement!

Save the mod money and run it stock on the track. You’d get more smiles per dollar that way. When it breaks then do mods by way of upgrades on replacements/repairs. Probably keep your license longer that way too...just my .02

GL either way!

Honestly, I would do that if I have the money once I pass the 6 digit odometer.

Mods in my signature are already on the car, car has a few hundred miles on it from COTA in Austin, TX . I am an avid motorcycle trackday rider, I will switch to cars eventually but not yet! When that happens though I would buy a beat up Miata I could just thrash with no care and cheap parts.

My 997.1 turbo manual is on 106,000 miles now. Ive had it since 69,000 and do 14,000ish a year in it all year around as my daily driver. I had the suspension completely checked over at 101,000 miles and the place tested all the shocks and said they were within new tolerances. A couple of the rear suspension arms & front top mounts were worn & replaced. I finally got around to modifying the car performance wise last year. I used a leading UK tuner as that's where I am based. I had them check the stock 103,000 mile turbos out and the play was within new tolerances. They did engine bore checks and compression tests amongst other checks and the end result was that the engine was perfectly fine and good to modify.

Tuning wise I had fitted the do88 big pack intercoolers & pipework, do88 bigger bore intake pipes, do88 Y-pipe, do88 plendum with GT3 thottle body. New plugs, coil packs, kline 100cell exhaust, a sachs 890 clutch to handle extra power, a BMC air filter, then quite a few on road mapping sessions. End result was a conservative & safe 585bhp at the wheels. That was 4 months and about 3 or 4,000 miles ago now and the car is going strong. It feels at least twice as quick as stock. Its totally mental now, and yet as docile as a stock car around town. Im also only running 1.2bar boost at max and so the bulk of the extra power came from the intercoolers & pipework etc allowing them to play with the fueling etc. so the car has a lot more potential still if I feel the need to fit bigger turbos/injectors and take things further.

Thanks for the info! My warranty runs out at 103k miles or 12/30/2020. Makes me happy these last so long!

I'm sitting at 48k with nearly the same mods, car makes just over 600whp since I am on larger VGT turbos from a GT2 at 1.5bar I have no worries with this car as many are making good power with no real major issues. Nice to see you get to daily yours Rabbitstew!!!
