2007 Turbo Over Rev report
Hey guys,
I got results here from an over rev report on a 2007 turbo with pretty high miles (93k) I am considering to buy. Wanted to know what to make of the over rev report numbers.
Range 1- 363
Range 2 - 31
Range 3 - 13
Range 4 - 13
Range 5 - 8
Range 6 - 1
Looks to me that this car may have been driven pretty gingerly but there may have been one big mistake once. Trying to see if this is something to be concerned about.

That range 6 is a glitch, and ranges 3 and 4 being the same number is also weird. Key thing really is how old they are as indicated by the hour counter. It's actually a very clean report for a car with 93,000 miles, usually you see a lot more range 1/2s by then.

That is a solid report for the miles.
You need the current hours, and when each over rev occured.

Thats the issue. I just got off the phone with the Porsche Dealership that ran the test and they said they can't get the hour count from it with the equipment they have, which to me sounds like nonsense but it is what it is.

That being said, those numbers are very, very small so unless the car is noticeably running rough I think you'll be fine even if they're recent.

That's not horrible. Op hours would be ideal. Can you re-run the report with Durametrics and grab the time stamps?

The more I look at some of these reports the more I wonder how many of them have been "doctored"... I'm not saying this one is, it's just that it looks a little suspicious with values in every bucket and 5/6 (and even 3/4) with such low values.

Mine randomly records +1 in ranges 1-4 here and there.... I started taking screen shots using my durametric to document this. These are glitches

Yeah, it really just comes down to the DME not being nearly as pixel-perfect as people want it to be. Even when you have more legitimate looking numbers in 1-3, who's to say they aren't fudged by 50 revs in one direction or another?
It is possible to tamper with the DME but I think that's pretty rare. It's one reason why calculating the average MPH is important.

DME's are to be taken with a grain of salt... That report in the OP is perfectly fine.
