High mileage 997.1 TT, what would scare you away?
Howdy.
I recently sold my 997.1 C4 and I'm considering a 997.1 TT to replace it. I like to wrench on my cars and I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty, so my concern with high mileage cars is not so much the mileage but the maintenance and the prior owner(s). I found one out of state that has over 100k miles but a recent engine out service including pinned coolant lines and a variety of other "while you're in there" items. A leakdown test showed 4-5% in all cylinders. It seems like a nicely kept car and the owner has had several prior Porsches.
I'm just curious who among you would consider a high mileage TT, and who thinks its a horrendous idea?
I'm going to check it out this weekend along with an inspection so I would love any and all advice on what to look for. Thanks!

Pretty sure I just saw that car online today. Silver Texas car with about 115k on the clock. Photos of receipts, etc. included. $45k or something like that. Coolant pipe fix shown in receipts. I liked it for what is was at that price. Darn near emailed them, but go for it.

I wouldn't be scared of a well kept 997 TT with 'high' miles. I bought my 964 with 95,000 on the clock and have enjoyed the car tremendously for the 20,000 I've added. I enjoy the maintenance and upgrades and it sounds like you do as well.
I have 55,000 on my turbo and I love to see highest mile threads. If maintained well, these cars are known to cover multiple hundred thousand miles between rebuilds. Buy, drive, maintain and enjoy.
Best of luck with the purchase!

If it's well maintained then mileage is just a number. Cars these days last several hundred thousand miles if maintained. Only difference is Porsche parts cost a lot more to maintain even if you do the work yourself. I'm a mechanic on the side but replacing parts say PSM struts and shocks will cost you $2k+ just for parts.

Thanks all for the suggestions so far. The Porsche tax is real, but I would be getting a deal on this leaving room for additions/updates/replacements/maintenance. I am hoping for a clean bill of health from the drivetrain and good accessories in working order. I don't think the suspension was ever replaced but suspension work is one of my favorite things to do. Recently redid the entire suspension on my R129 SL500. Anyway, I hope it's as good as advertised. Spent about 40 mins on the phone with the owner tonight and came away encouraged.

Agree with comments below, just a number especially if you consider to keep it for long. With this car you can’t go really much better after you have it so I would consider to keep it for very long and so the mileage isn’t important. Furthermore all the usual problem and parts should have been fixed now you may expect less issue than a 50-80k miles.
Guess the clutch has been changed, do you have a clear historical of the car? A friend of mine just got a 100k miles 996 tt everything has been done and the previous owner was baby sitting the car, the car is perfect a real bargain.

service history, lack of major past issues is key

I bought mine with 60k in September of 2017, I have 71,600 and its a fun sunny day driver. A well maintained car with high miles is great, because you know it will be reliable and you wont feel bad for driving it! For the record, nothing was better than seeing my buddies face in his 991.1 GT3RS get out of his car and ask how I pulled away from him so fast on the highway on our way to cars and coffee this weekend.

Not really sure, his car was no slouch by the way! But I mean...a modded turbo as I am very sure you know from your race with a 800hp car and all your mods, is no slouch either.

Or you can take that $45K and some change and buy a 2019 Ducati Panigale V4R...365 lbs, 234 H.P. I'm just being an instigator...I agree with the chorus...sounds like a good deal to me, though I would certainly still campaign for a lower price, but that goes without saying.

Fer sure...I would guess yours is pulling around 575-600HP? I had a GT2RS flash his lights at me as we passed on Palm Bay Rd. on my way to get E85 the day the GT500 came for my small little red car. I would like to tangle with one of those one day just to see what transpired....on E85 I think I'd have a chance but the PDK would give him a BIG advantage...I'm Pretty slick on the stick but I'm no computer controlled twin transmissions. You can't beat a PDK.
