Default 997 TT MT Engine Cost

Was just poking around in Sonnen and happened across the 2007 997 TT MT Engine Cost: $52,600 with a $7,500 core charge.

Just out of curiosity looked up the 2010 3.8L 997 TT MT Engine cost: $28K, $14K core charge. That's a pretty large disparity.

Don't want those connecting rods loosening up! Porsche doesn't accept ventilated cylinder blocks. LOL

Does seem odd that the 2007 Turbo motor is listed as almost double the value as the 2010 Turbo motor.

I think I saw or read an interview with Andreas Preuninger and he pretty much admitted that the main reason they stopped using Mezger engines was that they were too complicated and expensive to build.

Right now if you need a 997.2TT engine, Porsche will send you a 991.1TT engine and you swap out the cam housings, turbochargers, and exhaust.

Im reading on here that .1 is really the money maker for machenics and not .2. What’s your take and experience on such statement?
I think you misread Kevin's post...he intimated the 997.2 (after 2009) engine replacement would be a 991.1 (not 997.1).

From what I understand the 997.2 engines were not only cheaper to produce but also significantly improved fuel economy.

BTW for my fellow Texans the following plate is available

Being the same engine platform as the Cayman/Boxster/base Carrera (correct me if I'm wrong) probably also introduces some favorable economies of scale.

thats why they stopped making mezger TT.

Before the appreciation and when they are under warranty, porsche would rebuild rather than replace engine to save cost because a new engine then was $70k.

Yes the Mezger is assembled from a lot of individual parts from it's air cooled origin design whereas the 997.2TT engine is a more modern water cooled from the start integral crankcase design which is much cheaper to build.
