Default 08' TT Tiptronic leaking tranmission fluid

Anyone know a good independent mechanic in the Raleigh area that is good with transmissions? My transmission is leaking fluid at the paper gasket between the transmission and transfer case and the local Porsche dealer is telling me that the solution is to replace it. The quote they gave me is $33k, needless to say I was floored. This is close to half what I paid for the car! The car is drivable but has a consistent drip so I'm I have no way of knowing how low it is. I'm also worried I might have issues getting the car in gear or worse yet having it seize up. I'm open to suggestions if anyone has any. Help!

Thanks!

That’s insane! I am sure there is a less expensive fix. How much fluid are you losing overnight?

Lived in Chapel Hill and could not find a better mechanic than the Porsche dealer, but did use for wife's CLK

http://www.abetterwrench.net/about.html

That Tip is the same ZF that goes in the higher torque MBs.

It’s a slow drip, but after a week I have a nice pool of fluid on the garage floor. Can’t believe that they can’t replace the gasket, 33k is a vert expensive piece of paper.

I would find a Mercedes trans specialist and get them to take a look. I had a fluid leak in mine, Porsche couldn't fault it and recommended replacement. Local trans specialist fixed for $500...

The thread I started for reference. Doesn't sound like the same issue but worth a look: https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...=354073&page=3

NZ,

Thanks for the help, I actually showed the service techs this post of yours post last week hoping that this was the case. No luck, sadly the transfer case is on the other end end of the transmission.

Find a good transmission....where are you located?

Friendly reminder...dealer techs replace parts not repair the problem

I'm in Apex, North Carolina. The dealer actually suggested a couple of options today, one send the tranny to Renntech and have it rebuilt or they could try something similar to epoxy. Depending on the cost I'm leaning towards sending it to Renntech, I end up with a refreshed transmission that is built to take some abuse. Renntech charges $3900, I'd end up paying shipping both ways, and I'd have to pay the dealer to remove and reinstall the transmission. Best guess is that I'd be out 6-7K depending on who I had do it...

^^^^ This ^^^^

I did some Googling -- the links below seemed relevant. Actually looks like the problem you're describing isn't that uncommon and that you might actually be able to fix your car without even removing the transmission (perhaps even DIY). Worst case, you get it fully rebuilt (and maybe upgraded for more torque capacity) for the type of money you're already thinking or less.

The dealership said that the turbo and non turbo transmission is not the same. I wondered that myself.

Suspected as much with the torque difference. I think you have found the best solution, but ouch $$.

Yes, but 7k beats 33k. I could fix the transmission nearly 5 times for the same cost! Going to look into the suggestion Brainz suggested to see if there is a cheaper solution. I just want to be able to drive the car.
