Default Leather care

My leather is pretty dirty. Was going to order Porsche cleaner and a bottle of Porsche conditioner. Wanted to check here and see if anyone liked or disliked the Porsche stuff and if there is anything better. Thanks!!!

Unless you have the "Natural Leather" option on your car,.. you should NOT use a leather conditioner.

Modern leather interiors have a urethane coating on them (which is why your modern Porsche's leather interior smells like vinyl instead of like a new suede jacket) . So it is simply not possible to condition the leather. All you end up doing is putting a sticky film on top of the urethane,.. which attracts grit,.. which will then wear through the urethane and damage the surface.

Just get a very soft bristle brush,.. and dilute a splash of Woolite in a 1/3 bucket of water. Give the seats a gentle scrub and dry right away with a towel.

IF you have the natural leather option,.. you go back to doing the pre 1990's process of cleaning and conditioning with products like Leatherique or Lexol.

For cleaning the dash, doors, etc in our modern, urethane-coated interiors,.. I use Nextzett Cockpit Premium. and a micro-fiber towel.

Cockpit is an awesome product, and I use that for dash and door panels as well. For the seats, I use Zymol Leather cleaner with a soft brush, followed by Zymol Treat, and buffed off to a nice matte finish. Seats look BRAND NEW. I do this 2-3 times a year on my daily driven 997.2 turboS

I read the reviews. Most said it was great, but it left the leather stick and tacky. Have the guys who have used it experienced this?

Love Zymoil for basic car care, good stuff.

It will if not removed properly. Follow the directions and it works great. The second part is great for spot cleaning and touch ups.

Yes.It is a 4 step process:

1. Vac, especially in the stitching cracks
2. Apply Rejuvenating oil with your hand
3. Bake in the sun.
4. Wipe clean with Prestine clean

+1. I use 1x per year and go full-on with it (put a space heater in the car to really let it soak in). The results are amazing. Never had any sticky or tacky leftover, so long as I cleaned after (pre-clean, then use conditioner solution, then cleaner solution, then wipe-up).

I have a 993 Turbo and love the stuff - Leatherique.

I have heard of the plastic/urethane coating on modern cars but not noticed a problem with my black leather seats. After using the 2nd product as part of the process and let it sit for a day. Leather came back super supple almost feeling sticky but it was a result of just being really soft compared to before. Needless to say I have have some worn creases but they almost disappeared. It also doesn't have a harsh smell and your hands feel great after the conditioner too.

Careful with garbage bags. They now have serial numbers usually as a blue dot matrix style and if placed towards the leather it will bleed onto and stain the leather. The serial numbers are for police tracking in the event something is dumped in them to narow it down.

It's protected leather, nothing will soak thru! How many times does it need to be said here. Throwing money away, just use simple cleaning methods.

Lexol cleaner in the orange bottle. Then condition with Zaino Z10. For vinyl, plastic and rubber, use Aerospace 303.
