Default Thinking of Upgrading map dvd

Has any one done it? Does the map still look like something from 1999? What’s the part number? Can I use any Porsche dvd nav from 2007?

Thanks - Sid

I did it on my 2008 Turbo with PCM 2.1. It’s easy. As I recall, you need to use the DVD for your model. The DVD set updates the firmware as well as the map data. After the update, the maps will look exactly the same. There’s no change to the graphics; it simply updates street data and POI data. For PCM 3.0, I believe the process is different and I don’t think it’s as friendly for a DIY procedure. I could be wrong on that.

Is this for a PCM 2.1 or 3.0? If 2.1, I would be surprised if it was worth it, as I believe the vendor that Porsche used stopped making uopdates around 2014 or so.

Like Dennis. I also have heard that the PCM 3.0 updates are not that simple to do as a DIYer..

I've purchased them from Suncoast Parts in the past.

OP: I had been thinking of doing this as well for a MY2007 car (PCM 2.1), but certainly not worth $250 for 4+ year old data.

saabin: Thanks for noting the supplier info you had heard, this is certainly decision-influencing. Has there been any corroboration from PCNA or dealer parts departments that these map updates from Porsche stopped in 2014?

I removed my Nav and CD Changer from the frunk, bought a Dension Bluetooth unit, looped the optical cable so the PCM still works and bought a NKMOS phone mount and use Waze instead.

Gives me more room for luggage, and up to date maps with live crowd sourced reporting of events and eyes of Sauron...

Here's the update from Suncoast, who generally has up-to-date info for these kind of things on their website. It looks like the last version was up to 2015. If you were really interested in pursuing, I would give them a quick call and ask..

https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/PCM21UPDATE.html

Honestly, the 2.1 navigation is hopelessly outdated tech by today's standards, I use my phone for navigation (Waze) with live traffic info on my Rennline phone mount. Works great, and 100% returnable to stock..(which is why I like the Rennline mount )

2015 is the last update and yes, it is $250. I had checked with two dealerships (FL where I bought my car and TX where I get it serviced) and got the same information. I have the original (2007) version. At some point, I may update, but for now the older version is fine. I'll just be taking the old roads and not those added since 2007 I suppose....

Under $100. Shipping is from Europe. Takes a while but it worked for me.

Thanks order one for $97. It’s outdated that’s for sure but updating the map isn’t a bad idea.
