997.1 Intro and some Maintenance/Update pics
I picked my car up in May after watching the market since almost last summer. Not to offend anyone, but I was looking for a non-black/silver/white/red 6spd coupe with low-ish miles. A 911 had been my dream car since my early teens 35 yrs ago when I had these magazine ads on my wall. Still have them in my closet.
I found my car at a non-Porsche dealer and had a PPI done by the local Porsche dealer. Things checked out so I bought it sight unseen and had it shipped.
Pics from the dealer website:
It had some options I was looking for:
The night it arrived in my driveway. Younger son wanted the first ride.
First night with its older brothers:
Not knowing the whole maintenance history, I changed the battery, oil/filter, charcoal cabin filter, fuel filter:
Cleaned the MAFS:
Changed the transmission fluid, front diff, and AWD controller:
Michelin PS4S, new TPMS, H&R front and rear spacers:
Removed leaves from front intakes. There were many. This was 1 side that did not go into the vacuum:
Leatherique treatment on the seats:
Hardwired V1 to the fuse box:
My wife's one request was the colored wheel center caps so I obliged:
Guy lives in my neighborhood, so I had think about making it a little quicker:
Sam at By Design Auto hooked me up with a Cobb and I downloaded Stg 1 93oct:
I ordered a Speedtech 2.5" catted exhaust from John, and Sam gave me a good deal on some intercoolers and a custom tune. I figured while I was in there, I would do plugs and coils as well.
Not sure how these even flowed any air:
Had to do the zip tie method:
Plugs and coils weren't too bad except for the front driver's side, no way that one was coming out how it was.
I did not loosen the headers or any oil lines. Had to drop the engine a few inches and after that, it came right out. Used the jack to lower the engine.
Exhaust going in. Replaced the pre-cat O2 sensors.
Yes, some duct tape on the intercooler intake:
Once everything buttoned up, I boost tested it. Did the $5 PVC version:
Plugs/coils/intercoolers/exhaust on the beer-o-meter was about a 31:
I downloaded the Cobb stg 2 93 oct. Next step is to do some datalogging and let Sam help with the custom tune. The exhaust sounds great and the car feels strong. Thanks for reading and any comments are welcomed. Thanks!
Edwin

Beautiful car, slate gray + beige/tan is an underrated combo. I'm also jealous of your mechanical abilities!

I have your cars twin, only difference is mine has the full leather package in just sand beige and beige gauge faces. Great upgrades, have thought about doing some to mine. I have just been to busy starting a brewery.

Thanks! Previous was Fabspeed. So far love the 2.5. I don't mind loud, didn't want my wife to freak out. She still hasn't heard the cold start cycle, so I'm waiting for "What the hell did you do to your car??"

Thorough job, and time consuming judging by the bottle caps. Leatherique, been using it for decades on my Porsches.
Don't know what you do for a living, but if you had to quit your day job could easily open your own Porsche shop.
I was happy with the local P dealer service when we lived in Chapel Hill. Been looking for a shop with your ability since we moved to FL; local dealer not quite so good and expensive.
Enjoy your car, they are great.
