Clearly many of us are drawn to the 996/997 platform because we are relatively 'old school' (hey I didn't say old ) and for our 'fun cars' prefer not to drive around in a rolling computer data center. Sure we have the ECU, PASM, ABS and PCM but they're relatively transparent and can be tuned, turned-off or replaced/upgraded as need be.

If you look objectively at the data, you'll see that it's not as much bigger as you might think. Here's a comparison of the 997.2 Turbo S cabriolet and the 991.1 Turbo S cabriolet (numbers courtesy of Porsche press kits).

Weight: 991.1 weighs 33.0 lbs. more than the 997.2
Length: 991.1 is 0.49" longer than the 997.2
Width: 991.1 is 1.09" wider than the 997.2
Height: 991.1 is 0.28" lower than the 997.2

Is the 991 bigger? Yes. Is it a huge difference? No. I don't think I could easily tell that one car was just under half an inch longer than another. On another note, the rear wheel steering on the 991 cars reduces the effective wheelbase by roughly 7 inches. As a result, the car drives and handles like a smaller car than the 997 (actual wheelbase difference is 3.98"). It's pretty cool technology.

The place you really notice the difference between 997 and 991 is the interior. The 991 feels much bigger there. For some people, that's a good thing. For others, it's a bad thing.

I suspect the 992 will be even bigger in some dimensions. Hard to say - it appears in the spy photos to be an evolution of the 991 rather than a complete redesign.
Ever since the 964, they have gotten bigger and bigger. I guess they had to with the 996 and 997 for the water cooling. Got to have space for radiators, coolers, and water pumps. I always love 911's because they were fun, small and quick. 80's SC's were not fast, but they were fun due to the size. I guess Porsche has the 718 for small, 911 for med and Panamera for fat. lol

Absolutely satisfied. Came from a 928s.

Best car I have ever driven. Have a second weekender - Lotus Elise. The feel of the clutch is completely different, so I get the complaints. I rarely try to launch the 997 TT from a standstill...the Elise is off like a shot every time! Funny, on the TT test drive of the car I did not buy I stalled it and felt foolish.

As for aesthetics - the 991 shape is much more refined...and aside from the wing, the lines are a pleasing shape to me. Seeing a 991 on the road is eye catching in a modern way yet with the appealing hips and headlights - only complaint is the wing.

100% I bought my 2010 TT S last summer with 12,500 miles... I had gotten to that point because I was test driving the new 2017 Panamera (back in 16). At the dealership they had a 997.1 TT Cab sitting on the floor.. and I just couldn't keep my eyes off of it! After my test drive I came back to the Turbo and asked how much? $75K.. I was rather surprised to say the least. I had already decided that I was going to purchase a new GT350 Shelby as I wanted a car with soul and a stick (I want to teach my kids to drive a stick while everyone else is driving electric cars) but at 60K and the typical 10-15K vig the Ford boys were putting on was just pissing me off... but now I see that I can get a Turbo for similar money? Well now I'm on a different trajectory! Needless to say, my 2010 wasn't 75K. but now at 18,500 miles I wouldn't have changed anything about my decision!

Now that all said and done....I have done a number of OEM based mods (GT2RS door sills, wheels and tires, rear sway bar, short shifter + non OEM .. Cobb, DSC, full exhaust... I feel that I have tailored this car to as close to perfect for a street car as possible for me.

But.... yesterday, I did call my Porsche broker guy and was asking about GT4s and 993 Turbos... So maybe I'm looking for something a little more "raw" in addition to my "precise and near perfect for me" Turbo?

So what is the conclusion? I will never sell my absolutely perfect .2 stick TT and I will not look for a GT4 or a 993T... Instead, I want to build up a Safari 911! https://petrolicious.com/articles/ru...-absolute-best
Not some 150K builder car... but some 911 that I bought cheap and redid myself.....

and if I don't do that... well then maybe buy a KitFox and build that in my garage.... check out Trent Palmer's youtube video channel... https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q...4&&FORM=VRDGAR

similar money... now that make me satisfied!

Your 2010TTS cab looks awesome, nicely done! Love the wheels and exhaust, very classy against the silver paint!

Thank you. Sometimes I get coupe envy but that is only when the kids are bitching in the back seat about being cold on a 72 degree day... So I solved the problem with me now carrying a wool pendleton blanket in the boot!

Great looking car. The wheels look like GT2 RS wheels. Love those....

I agree with members here who own either a Turbo or Turbo S. It is not the same as the GT cars but it is an outstanding all-around formal car that packs a punch!

Drive safe,
