Default Smokin TT

I just acquired my second Turbo, a 2008 997.1 TT a couple of weeks ago, my first was a low mileage 1986 930. I am astounded at the refinements that have occurred in the past 22 years of production. I had the wheels powder coated black soon after the purchase. It has 51k miles on it and I'm seeing more blue smoke at start up than I want to. I have the complete service history from previous owner, all done at Porsche dealership. I wish the plugs were more accessible so I could do a compression check. I have had good luck over the years with oil additives for high mileage engines but I just cant bring myself to add anything to the Mobil 1 just yet. Any thoughts?

Occasional blue smoke on cold start or all the time? These cars are notorious for blue-ish white smoke on cold start from time to time, with no underlying issue. If it’s doing it more frequently and on warm starts you could be over filled on your oil level or you could have a turbo developing an issue. Pretty rare to see an issue with the motor itself under normal usage.

After reading the oil threads, I'll be changing to Motul 300V perhaps that will help.

If you start the car to move it without really driving it, tends to smoke more on startup the next time - which is a known quirk with these motors.

Last time I washed the car I started it to move out/back in garage, few days later I started it to go for a drive and a giant plume of smoke engulfed my wife waiting to get in the car - look on her face was priceless.

Just another thing she can add to her list of reasons of my car is "broken" lol

Normal. Enjoy the car.

Even my 991 GT3 did this. The most embarrassing time was when it was parked by the valets right in front of one of my favorite fine dining establishments which has a nice al fresco area. It smoked so heavily I know the people sitting there couldn’t see each other for a few seconds, hahaha. Oh well.

The only time I see smoke is when I park on a hill, or when I don't warm it up before turning it off (ie move a few metres for cleaning when cold).
