Just to clarify a few topics here:
- Motul was founded by Swan & Finch in the USA in 1853 and later became an independent lubricant manufacturer based in France (an ally in WW2) in 1932- that is where we continue to be headquartered today and have been ever since. Speaking of history, did you know Motul was the ever first multi-grade oil available? That goes for the first semi-synthetic and the first fully synthetic engine oil as well.
- The 300V engine oils have all the necessary detergents/dispersants etc as a regular service engine oil. We only recommend a shorter interval due to it being a motorsport/track product from a legal perspective. While it is our flagship-highest-
performing product, the 300V doesn't hold the Porsche A40 engine approval like the 8100 engine oils- 8100 X-cess 5W40 and 8100 X-max 0W40.
- 300V does have a high ZDDP additive package BUT we also use a unique ester group 5 synthetic base oil that has additional anti-wear properties vs common synthetics for added engine protection.
- Motul Sport 5W40, 5w50: This product is positioned between 8100 and 300V and is only available in 2 grades. It is a 100% synthetic oil w/ Ester where the 300V is 100% synthetic w/ EsterCore technology- a proprietary formula w/ a higher concentration of esters vs the Sport.
I hope this helps and please reach out to us if you have any questions in the future. - Nick

Regardless, I'm happy to hear 300V is suitable for normal interval changes. The high zinc content is a strong benefit, I believe. Is there an issue with the 300V and emissions systems on the 997.1 turbo? I thought high ZDDP content can negatively impact emissions?
I've been buying Motul on Amazon. As I was pouring the 5litre bottle into my Mezger motor, I had visions of the product possibly being faked...made in some godawful animal processing plant in Nanching. Was this concern without merit? Is there a preferred source and can you give Rennlisters a discount? I suspect you'll see more 300v being sold to this crowd in the near future.
Thanks! And so glad to hear Motul is based the beautiful, freedom loving nation of our Allied Forces partner, France. We need to stock up now before we tariff the **** out of French motor oils!

Thanks Nick! Great info and I appreciate you chiming into the thread. I truly hope my note about the history of Motul wasn't taken seriously. Perhaps the sarcasm was a bit too dry. I thought it would be taken more humorously, especially given the irony implied by the fact we're all owning Porsche 911s. Too soon?

There aren't really any issues with counterfeit product in North America. We don't have preferred vendors online- Amazon, Summit Racing, Rally Sport Direct are all consistent sources for Motul.- Nick

300V is NOT offered in a 0W50 or 5W50.. Please remember that 300V tends to run thin on the SAE scale vs Mobil or other oils. Guys that live in Hot zip codes or track the car should really look at the 5W50 SPORT.. Added insurance against SHEER.. We do not want our oils sheering into a 30 weight. If you feel good about running 5W40 300V, then just watch your HTHS values in your UOA report. And change the oil sooner vs later..
Check this thread out and the UOA on post 13...

If you want the best performing oil possible from Motul, then the 300V is the only option. 300V is used right off the shelf by some of the most prestigious and decorated car/engine builders in racing series' all around the world ie McLaren GT, Gibson (LMP2 engine manufacturer) in WEC, 24 Hours of Le Mans, IMSA, Blancpain and many more.
For Porsche and from a pure power perspective, we engine dynoed this product on a 3.6L Porsche Cup engine recently- we saw a 4.3-7HP increase and a 1.2% TQ improvement vs the market leaders (0W40 vs 5W/0W40's). In large part this is due to the group 5 esters we use. They have a much lower traction coefficient vs traditional synthetics (group 3 and 4) and help create more power. 300V is also heavily friction modified for maximum HP and TQ.
From a reliability standpoint, the ester molecule is also virtually unbreakable and can withstand very high oil temperatures, this means the viscosity retention is very high- this also leads to additive retention which can drop out when the oil begins to deteriorate. That will lead to a loss of anti wear additives, detergents, dispersents and other important ingredients that make up an oil's formulation. Because of its unique formulation, 300V's shear stability and it's ability to combat oil consumption is unmatched. We have reports back from our technical partners that since switching to 300V, they have experienced up to 25% longer engine life.
In the end, the purpose of this product is to maximize horsepower and reliability with no compromises.
Sport will fit somewhere in the middle here. It will not have the level of performance of 300V but will be a modest bump in performance vs an 8100 product.
I hope that answers your questions.- Nick

If you still aren't convinced, you can use the 300V 15W50 or the Sport 5W50 w/ Ester.- Nick

Nick, ask your Chemist what ratio we need to get a 5W50 from the selection of 300V with a 8.5 quart fill. Motul should make a 0W50 or 5W50 300V.. We cannot RUN a 15W50 with our VANOS plus/valvetrain. We don't struggle with making with power in this engine. We struggle with sheer.

A lot of 5W50's are shear prone as they are pumped full of VII's generally.
We won't make a formal recommendation without testing but at your own risk, the math is quite simple: 55% of 300V 0W40 and 45% of 300V 20W60 would get you, in theory, to your target grade of a 5W50.-Nick

Appreciate the info, but given this is a specific car model section, and so an application specific sub forum, I'd expect answers that suit. Recognise you need to be careful, but you're much more likely to move product if you give specific answers/feedback.
Kevin's questions related to shear are front of mind for all of us, particularly those that get out on the track. Does the Sport 5W50 product hold up well under track conditions? Or is it impacted as per your comment above? I'd like to try your product but not interested in ridiculous short oil replacement cycles.

In regards to the Sport, since it is a ester based lubricant it is very shear stable vs traditional 5W50’s. Grp V ester synthetics offer a lot performance advantages, shear stability being one of main ones. That being said, with oil shearing being the main challenge here, the Sport 5W50 will be a great candidate to help solve these issues while retaining standard oil drain intervals. -Nick
