the numeric shifter oinstalls exactly like oem. 4 nuts and an allen bolt for the cable. adjustability in the throw allows for custom feel the rifle bolt engagement is pure joy. also dan is one of the best art customer service. always answers the messages or fone and aims to please

I would go with OEM part.

997.1 GT3 RS has much shorter throw than 997.1 turbo shifter.

Unless your RS has the Porsche short shift kit, no it doesn't. The 997.1 GT3RS and 997.1 Turbo (and all other 997.1 and 997.2 non-gt variants) use the same shifter with the same part number. The 997.2 GT3 & RS got an upgraded shifter assembly with metal bushings in place of plastic bushings, but the throw and feel is still the same as all other 997 shifters (I bought one brand new and it's identical to my 997.1 turbo shifter in every way).

If your RS had a noticeably shorter throw than your Turbo, it had the oem Porsche SSK or some other short shift modification.

Cheers

So what can I do with the factory sport shifter to make it a bit more crisp. Function first and align cables?

The RS (not sure about the non RS) has a shorter selector on the transmission which gives you a shorter throw...as cstyles said, the RS shifter has the same throw as the regular 997 shifter.

I would align the cables and see what it does for you. I adjusted mine a couple weeks ago and the difference was definitely noticeable. You could get the function first and modify yours but the throw won't change...and at the price of the kit, you could get an OEM GT3 shifter with metal bushings for almost the same price...

There is also this kit. Have it laying around but couldn't find time to install it yet. Will be interesting to see how much difference it makes.

I’ve just installed the function first shift kit into my OEM short shifter... it is fantastic! Well worth the money. I also installed the yellow function first tranny mount inserts and quite happy with this mod too.. next week I plan on changing the diff fluid and will write a complete review. My car shifts almost as nice as a Miata.. but not quite.

Looking forward to hearing your review on the shifter mod! Was it that noticeable?

I dint feel the difference on a short shifter on my 997.1 to a .2RS.
What i like is that my turbo is lighter to shift which makes it perfect.

I plan to add it on my GTS.

I also noticed that the throw on my friends RS was about the same as my Turbo with SSK...

I'm of no real help, but added SSK to my 997.1 C2S launch car shortly after purchase on 8/04 launch day, and my 997.1TT came new with it. 9 years later, and tens of thousands of shifts, no problems with OEM SSK and still happy.
