I've got an '07 with 41500 on the clock and no issues yet.

Of course, I realize that it will now grenade after responding to this thread

2007 no issues...yet. Reading this forum makes me worry about the coolant leaks and a spun camshaft every damn time I use it. For that reason I don't ever feel like I have piece of mind. All that and i've had absolutely zero issues with my car to date.

I agree - after reading these forums, and being a critical engineer, I'm always checking under the car to see if anything is leaking. It is a curse - but I still enjoy the car. Honestly, sometimes it feels like it is best to stay away from forums - ignorance is bliss, right?

And stay away from the dentist in case they find a cavity...

Just drive and enjoy, don't sweat the small stuff, we only live once.

Yes I have had an issue with the glue giving way with age. Mine was a pre owned 2007 car which was hardly used. And when i did start using it, one fine day it gave way. While doing the reglueing and pinning, i asked the PORSCHE guys to scope the bore. It had developed scoring marks which were bad. I had to redo the engine. Undergoing installation as i write. Should be up and ready in few days. My suggestion is to pin the aluminium outlets if you have the engine out, to avoid a situation like mine.

Hi Guys! The reason I created the poll in this thread was to validate or repudiate the concerns over coolant pipe failures. Looks like it's in between and I empathize with all. As the owner of a 59,XXX 997.1 TT, It's in the back of my mind.

To look at our data critically, it looks like failure rates are 25%. This is rife with issues. The first impacting factor is forum participation, which probably reflects a more engaged enthusiast group. Usage factors are of course, a variable that's unquantifiable.

I suppose I'll preventatively address the issue next year. Until then, here's a picture from today. A December 18th drive in Michigan is a very rare treat! After a fresh oil change to Amsoil 0W-40 for colder weather, a drive hits the spot.

No issue here. July 2008 build.

Side note, my 2002 turbo, which i owned for 5 years and up to 65,000 miles never suffered the issue either.

Did they have any ideas on what caused the bore scoring? I hear about that a lot with the M96/M97 engines but not as much with the Mezgers. Always looking for another thing to add to my daily paranoia.

On my 997.1 07 Turbo I found a pipe backed out about half way at 34,500 so I had all the pipes pinned and hoses replaced.
I also track a 04 GT3 so I already dealt with the issue in that car and was on the look out for the issue in the Turbo.

My 996 has 68k miles and still all original, however dropping it in Jan/Feb to do the fittings. The 997 has 52k miles and will be following right after the 996.

Anyone in SE Michigan have their pipes done? If so, a shop recommendation and opinion on the repair is helpful. Pinning, re-epoxy, knurling, welding...not sure what's best.

Bore scoring is typically indicated by knocking sounds when warm. Did you have an engine noise that suggested scoping the bore was needed? Did the scoring occur due to the cooling failure or previous to the failure?

Bumping this to gather some more data.

Happy Memorial Day to all those observing.

This car sparks, in me, great joy.
