Thoughts about driving new Porsches @ ATL
Just got finished attending a corporate event at The Atlanta Porsche Experience Center. Drove the Cayman GTS and 911 Carrera S (both pdk).
Was fun to drive the "slippery track" which you basically drift all the way through. Also neat to try the automated launch, first time for me using that feature. The track is decent but only 1.2 miles per lap.
BUT...driving these cars made me appreciate my 997.1 manual turbo soooo much. It is just a whole different experience. Every time I drive my car I feel like it is a special event...these new cars are just so refined (and extremely capable I am sure), but they just don't excite in the same way. Granted I did not drive a new turbo or GT3; those cars would probably be a better comparison. In the ATL airport now waiting for my flight back to Houston. Can not wait to drive my 997.1TT home from the airport.

Thanks for posting. The Porsche experience center in Atlanta is on my list for summer drives. Great to hear you find your 997.1tt more engaging than some of the new models.

If you get out ahead of it with a call explaining you own a manual Porsche, you can drive a manual at the Atlanta center. I understand exactly what your talking about with the new cars, but man it was SO much fun to hammer them around the track and skid pads without worrying about missing a shift! I was also able to launch the new Turbo - wow. It was incredible. That being said - I am sticking with the 997 generation of cars for the foreseeable future.

Once the new GT4 comes out, I think it would be fun to go down there and test drive one of those. Good to hear how good the Turbo is compared to all the new stuff.
