new key fob for 09 turbo?
Hey guys,.
Just picked up an 09 TT, but it only came with one key fob.
I went to my local dealership and they wanted 500(!) for a new one that was cut. If there a more affordable alternative?
Thanks.

You might want to search over on the regular 997 forum (nothing turbo-specific about a key fob) and see what they say.
I can say from personal experience (4 years ago) when I bought my turbo that was missing a key.. I got a replacement at an indy shop for <300. At that time, there were limited places (dealers and very few indy shops) that could get you the "codes" from the mothership in Germany.. maybe thats changed these days, but back then you were pretty much at their mercy..
I suppose you could buy the fob from ebay, and then get the "key" cut and the programming done at your indy (call first to make sure they can do it..) might save a few bucks that way..

I have an '08 997tt. If it's the same style key, I bought a cheap replacement "fob" head from eBay for about $30 and it came with a blank key. Just would need to have it cut.
Edit - I just reread above and it's already been suggested.

I have an 08 turbo. I had the same issue. Where are all the second keys going anyway.. What I did was buy a blank and had the key shop that cuts keys for the dealership cut it. I brought in a quote from Sunset Porsche for a fob and they price matched that price. (saved $100) and had the dealership program the fob for $100. All in for everything was $350.

Holy moly - Now I don't feel weird for locking-up my spare keys in the safe!
OT but we've had a number of Toyotas with horribly designed fobs/remotes that break way too easily and are also $350-400 to replace. What a racket! I wonder if there could be an aftermarket opportunity here, if the security and tech inside those things is not totally proprietary and unreproducible.
