great information. Wonder if the turbo had any mods other than added 5 mm valve lift that 911 series has.

I’m surprised this excerpt hasn’t drawn up more discussion:

“The 9A1, in contrast to its predecessor M96/72 Mezger block, was designed for superior performance, reliability and durability for general consumer use as well as in racing applications. Throughout its years of production and historical hindsight, this has held to be true, resulting in one of the most significant measures of 911 ownership - resale values – to be on average 80-120% higher than a comparably equipped Mezger 911.”

Shall see as they get older, the 10-15 year point seems to be the bottom of the depreciation curve.

Conclusion is glorious

CONCLUSION Best thing to do is go buy one, start the car and drive. Keep the RPMs under 3k until the engine warms up, which does not take long. Note: slow drives at low RPM are an unhealthy diet for this engine. Burn good fuel and drive hard. That is what this engine needs and loves.

The M96 is the 996 powerplant, not what is considered to be the "Mezger" motor which is derived from the GT1. Mezger derived motors have won more races in 50+ years of competition that the 9A1 ever will.

Geesh, it was a joke, no need to get your tighties in a bunch. I thought the resale value comment especially would have given that away. Or the fact that what I quoted was not actually a quote in the article.
