I just got around to having the fluid changed. Although the oil that came out what quite black (the fresh oil is quite clear), I haven't yet noticed a difference in shifting in the 10 mins I drove it. Perhaps I should get it up to temp and run it hard and long one day to make sure. But I suspect that shifting will not change much, as my 2 other Porsches were pretty much the same way.

000-043-204-20L Mobil 1 Mobilube PTX 75W-90 (Manual tranny & front diff fluid, 5 L total) (I think the "L" in the part number is just a Suncoast thing indicating 1 liter, the base part number is a 20L container.)

atm, I never came across your part number you have listed above for the tranny fluid.. Is that what you're supposed to use if it has an LSD? That part # doesnt show up when I search on Suncoast website, but it does show a bunch of hits from google..

Finally got around to finishing this up yesterday,

Pretty straighforward, I did have to remove the fuel tank straps so I could wiggle the hard plastic tank carrier in order to get enough torque on the AWD fill plug.. that thing was TIGHT. My first attempts with the swivel head wrench started to round off the bolt, so I'm glad I bought new hardware to replace it with.

The AWD fluid seemed to be slightly less than 1L, and the front diff slightly more than 1L.

(Two technical posts from me in 2 days... gotta balance out all the pricing/value threads :eek:. it's almost becoming as bad as the 991 GT3/RS forum. :icon107:

I'm planning to do this same fluid change this spring. Just want to clarify exactly which oils go in which component, as it looks to me like people use different names to describe the same component.

On my manual LSD optioned car, I believe there are three components to change the fluid on correct?

- Manual transmission porsche oil # 000-043-204-00
- Limited slip rear differential porsche oil # 000-043-303-00 may be superceded to 000-043-305-40
- Front differential porsche oil same as rear differential

What is the AWD controller? Is that just another name for the front diff? Am I missing any other components in the driveline? Cheers

The part# 000-043-305-40 you listed above is for the AWD controller, which is directly behind and connected to the front differential (does not share fluids). It requires a flex head socket to remove the fill bolt.

At 77,000 miles the stock fluid seems fine? this is on an 08' 997TT will change all of the fluids with the factory stuff.
Looks like the fluid was changed as the transmission fill plug is stripped! now have to figure out how to extract it.
Coolant also on my list.

How often should the diff fluid be changed on a low mileage 997 turbo?

Factory states 12 years or 108,000 6 speed
6 years or 48,000 all-wheel drive controller

changed all fluids this weekend - delvac and new plugs throughout. Actually brought it to 07turbos shop and he did all the work.

trans diff awd didn’t look bad. 2008 w 45,000 miles

yeah none of the fluids came out that dirty.

always good to get it done with these cars getting up there in age and most do not have many miles on them

Hello Guys,

i want to change the fluids on my 997 Turbo from 08.

Do you fill the rear transaxle until the fluid comes out or like stated in the workshop guide 7mm under the fill bolt?

Do you use a special handpump or a better tool for filling it?

For the transaxle i would use Castrol Syntrax Limited Slip 75w-140

If you want to go by the book then I would get a fat zip tie measure 7mm and bent it to a ninety degree angle to use as a "dipstick"

I have done plenty of these drain and fills...i just let it flow out and have never had a problem with a leaking seal or anything
