Default Looking to join the club. Help a GT-R guy out!

Hello all,

First of all I'd just like to apologize for making my first post a probably often asked question. I did search a bit and just can't quite seem to find what I'm looking for. I'm hoping you guys can help.

I'm currently a GT-R owner and I'm ready to move onto something a little more refined. The GT-R has 7xx wheel horsepower so I'm prepared to give up a little power.

I've settled on a 997.2 Turbo S as the general platform I'm looking into. Other than some comfort stuff and carbon ceramic brakes, I have no clue what I'm looking for, other than not a convertible.

Is there a comprehensive breakdown of available options/packages for the 997.2 Turbo S line? I'm basically just trying to determine what car is going to be best for me. Aside from that - feel free to chip in on options/packages you guys think are critical or should be avoided. I'd love to get an owner's perspective.

Thanks to all.

Are you planning to mod the car to the same level as the GTR? If so, I think the 997.1 Mezger motors are more mod friendly for high horsepower levels.

The main difference between 997.1 (2007-2009) and 997.2 (2010 on) are the fact that the .1 have the GT1 based flat 6 Mezger motor which has essentially unlimited horsepower potential (i.e. 1500+hp). The .2 is a great car but imho the 9A1 engine is not as mod friendly in the upper reaches of that powerband.

I'll get lots of hateful responses over this, but I have never seen a 9A1 with 1000HP. I'm sure someone will post a link :-)

For sure I'd love to do something like that, but unless it can be done affordably/reliably and without sacrificing driveability I don't think I would. I'd prefer a later generation car just for the various minor updates and MY. If a 997.2 can be safely modified to around 600-650 wheel horsepower, I think I'd be happy with that.

Check out LongBoarder's posts. He has a slightly modified S.

Big difference is an S is pdk. I don't know standard options on S, but there is a recent thread showing all options available. The three big ones are pccb; sport buckets; and locking diff.

good luck. I like the S. from everything i've seen, its a bullet. But I like to shift manually more.

It's all relative! I'm used to paying a GT-R tax and the Porsche tax is even higher. Realistically, I would lightly mod a Turbo S and hope I enjoyed the car as a whole versus going nuts like we did on the GT-R.

Is there a comprehensive breakdown of trim levels and packages out there for the 997.2 Turbo S? I'm not even clear on the RWD/AWD thing for this car.

Any chance you could link that thread? Digging around and Googling Rennlist and can't find it for a Turbo S.

Thank you - I haven't driven one yet, dealer here has no inventory.

After the DCT M3 and GT-R, I definitely want to stick to the DCT-style trans.

https://rennlist.com/forums/997-turb...available.html

And also look at mag reviews, they usually explain new options, etc.

Nope, no hate because you're correct (and I own a 9A1). There are currently no huge HP 9A1's but what you didn't mention is that it's newer and still being developed where the Mezger has been around 20+years. Will the 9A1 ever reach the same power potentials as the Mezger?...We really don't know. But the internals of the 9A1 have been dissected and proven to be stronger so that's a start.
Here's what I DO know.. The Mezger has been around for 20+ years and have had its R&D time. Pretty much everything you could do has been researched and done and is readily available from everyone. Not much new has been coming out. The aftermarket have now turned their focus and attention to the DFI cars since that's what all newer Porsche performance cars are including the monster 991.2 GT2RS.
I also know a much lower HP 9A1 will beat up a much higher HP 997.1 and most other higher HP cars.
For the OP, if you're after huge, unlimited HP (doesn't necessarily mean it'll be quickest) then get the one that's been developed and has all mods already available...the 997.1.
If you want quickness (low 10 second capability) with just a few basic mods (but a lower current ceiling available for huge HP), get the 997.2.

9A1 with 650whp is no problem at all.

I was way off! ....all that time certainly lends itself to the aftermarket research and development for the Mezger.

The knowledge base for that engine is certainly established (you've had these taken apart many times over). The 9A1 is still very green...

Best part about the 997 is you can have either flavor.

Nice, I'm kind of in the same boat as you. I have a Supra 6spd TT and thinking of selling it to go the GT3 route.

Did you sell your GTR yet?
