997.1 TT 2008 vs 997.2 C2S 2009

I need help deciding on what to buy
This is my first Porsche and my number 1 concern is reliability and maintenance, I'm afraid it will break the bank.
Im torn between the 08 turbo and the 09 carrera S
They are both similarly priced here.
Both are a ton of fun to drive I am sure. If you were in my shoes and reliability and maintenance is the number 1 priority what would you pick?

I suppose if reliability and maintenance were the only concern you'd have to go with the S. But if you add in depreciation, it'd be much closer. And then if you add enjoyment, IMO it's an easy win for the Turbo... (But of course, that's the answer you'd expect to get on this forum!) I personally started off looking at a 997.1 S, then noticed the 996tt was around the same price, and after driving that, ended up buying a 997.1tt. :)

So I might as well just go for the turbo. What is the major difference in maintenance between the 2S and the TT?

Go for the turbo!

If not a Turbo, then a 6spd GTS.

This my first P-car but can't see why there would be a significant difference in maintenance cost. Guess the big service (every 4th years) may be somewhat more expenensive as well as the insurance but that should be marginal on a 10 year old car. For that you get super car performance AND an iconic race-bred engine :)

A 997.2 C2S with the DFI is going to have a slightly more reliable engine from the fact that it doesn't have the coolant pipe issue, and doesn't have the cam issue. However, like others have said, the Turbo is going to be the more fun car, and the Metzger as an engine overall is going to be very reliable and solid. Depreciation like other have said will be more on the 997.2 C2S also, so in reality the 997.1 Turbo will cost you less overall.

I would add that the 997.2 will have PCM 3.0 which is better than the 997.1's PCM 2.1 and depending on options can also have ventilated seats. The 997.2 will also have updated headlights and LED tail lights over the 997.1. I will say that performance wise between both cars the turbo is the way to go. It all depends on what you're going for in a car, good luck!

Turbo all the way... Like others said will hold its value better and bullet proof mezger.. Power/torque is addicting, you will regret it later if you don't. Plus the look on your friends faces when you tell them you did not go with the Turbo ... lol

Maintenance wise I doubt there's that much difference.
Yeh the odd pipe might slip off here and there (hasn't happened to me though) but the fun factor is what it's all about with the Turbo.
Honestly, I get the oil changed and do the little things myself, and apart from that this is a genuine super car that you'll adore for many years.
The 997.1 is the one to get, in a manual if you can :)
The S is a fantastic car and you'll get all the NA engine sounds though if that's your thing.
But hit the gas and you'll be hooked in the Turbo. Ask anyone here!

I think they are both good options. A 2009 C2S is clear of the IMS issue generations (1999-2008 for non-turbo cars, with most issues in the 1999-2005 vintages). Mileage will we a factor in the comparison, as will status of major service items (e.g. coils, plugs, etc.). In case of the Turbo, check on other common issues (e.g. clutch slave replacement). The Turbo will feel materially faster - for most, it's more than you really need. I would purchase either and be happy.

If you don't get the turbo you'll wish you got the turbo. :icon107:

Ive owned a 997.1 C2s and 997.2 C4s. If the price is thesame with a TT, just go get the TT.

Think of it this way, if you drive normally just cruising around, the TT is like a C2S/C4S. Then if you want to play around a little, then start boosting, thats where you will see the difference b/w a carrera and a TT.

Trust us, we've been there.
