997.1 GT3 Pricing
#16
This^^
Too many other good cars for much better value nowadays. The 997 will always be a sought after classic, but the prices for GT badged 997's have been in the silly realm for too long. I remember shopping a low mileage 07 GT3 back in 2012 that was sitting at $77k at a dealer. Clean with 17k miles, and even then I thought it was overpriced for what it was. GT3's have an overhyped mythical presence, at the end of the day they're exceptionally great cars, but they're not as good as today's bloated price of admission may indicate. I also remember when you couldn't give away a 997 GT2 for anything less than $130k.....now they're $100k above that. GT prices got stupid. Time to return to normal.

with new 911 pricing continuing to go up... 991 zero option car is $91k+ and is going to be a depreciation monster... the 997gt3 imho will always be a compelling alternative to the real enthusiast. it would a different story if the gt car was unreliable, but it is rock solid sans a couple achilles heel type things which can be strengthened for small money.
Just my humble opinion...

In all seriousness. The GT3 is a track car. In day to day driving it's not practical, and not very enjoyable. 3.6 liter with no torque in the mid range. Rough ride. No backseat for kiddos. The 997.2 C2S is the best all-around 911 ever made. And a downright steal at $50-55k. The torque curve is much more usable in day to day driving.
GT3 for the track rats all day, but C2S for best all rounder. GTS if prices weren't so dumb too. Plain and simple 997.1 GT3's are overhyped. That's why they change hands so much. If they were truly "the best drivers car" they wouldn't switch owners so much. They're a 65-70k car in my book.

Correct, I (wifes) have C2S and it feels like a boat compared to the GT3, no contest.
airbag997, Any comparison/similarities end with shared silhouette, lets not even start on the drivetrain. keep saving for your GTS it is a great 911.

Zero. I only needed one afternoon with one to understand it wasn't my cup of tea. This with DD and or weekend duty in mind.
Seemed to have struck an emotional chord here. Didn't mean to ruffle any feathers. Just my personal opinion. I'm sure plenty of people will disagree with me. At the end of the day I'm a two wheel guy, so any car is second fiddle anyway.
At DD speeds I couldn't disagree more. Take a C2S add some fisters and Sharkwerks center, GT3 engine mounts, and some aggressive springs. The only significant difference at DD speeds was road noise levels, lack of mid range torque, and the steering feel is a little heavier/better. Now take both cars beyond 80 MPH and it becomes more night and day. But I rarely if ever see those speeds on public roads. Also, besides the 3.6, my biggest gripe with the 997.1 was the light/floaty front-end feel. The .2 (and especially the GT3) has superior front-end.
The 997.1 needs to driven like a 600cc motorcycle. The 3.6 is gutless below 5k. 3.8 has a much broader torque curve.
To each their own.

I'm clearly biased towards the 997gt3... but I'm not sure this is a true statement. While they do change hands, I wouldn't say there were a pile of them on the market at any given time.
In the end, it boils down to a personal preference. If everyone in the world was the same, it would be a boring place.

Well ........ guess I'm not very smart. Because after 7 years and over 40K miles, this "overpriced" 3.6 continues putting a dumb-*** grin on my face when I get behind the wheel. Every time. Including DD, canyons, and trips to the market. The value to me goes beyond the sum of its parts. There will never be another package like this.
I'll be gone before it goes to market.

I wouldn't wait to buy some proverbial dip to save 10k. In that time the car you buy will have 10k more miles. Is that a deal?
What has happened is that the hype has gone away. A clean .2 rs is still 200k. The ratty one that was asking 180 is now lower to 160 which is more realistic. This is healthy. Same in the .1 gt3 market.
Pay to play. If it was cheap, or easy, everyone would do it. Remember that.
