Default Converted Manual 991.1GT3RS vs. 997.2RS vs. 997.1RS model evolution review

Hey Guys. Just finished a email conversation with Jethro Bovingdon from Drivetribe, I asked if he'd be interested in doing the first video review of my manual conversion 991.1 GT3RS build and he said YES!! I own a 997.1GT3RS, 997.2RS and the soon to be converted 991GT3RS and i asked if he would like to to a comparison video as well of the evolution of the model throughout the years and what it would have been like if Porsche made the 991RS in a manual and being they are all in the garage so sourcing them wouldn't be an issue and he thought it would be a "brilliant idea" . I Wanted t know if that is something the 997 crowd would like?

Wanted to involve the 997.1/997.2GT3/RS forum members in the build of the car. I know some of you and including myself were disappointed when Porsche took the 3 pedal option away. Well its back, maybe if we generate enough interest in the build someone at Porsche will hear. Appreciate the support and let know your feedback about the drivetribe video on the 991 forum build thread. Thanks everyone.

I would absolutely LOVE to see this!

Jethro and Chris Harris are the 2 journo's I like the most, especially when it comes to Porsches.....they are enthusiasts of the brand, speak their mind for the most part and can obviously drive.

Major kudos to you on the 991 conversion.....been following the thread.

Thank man, me too, those 2 are the most entertaining by far and can drive the socks off of 911's.

Thank you very much and appreciate the support.

I disagree. For the year leading up to EVO departure, I noticed he suddenly he got all the low end reviews to do as if he had pissed off his boss.

A chance to start over, with an elevated position, and in new media instead of old auto print journalism sounds like a win win for him.

you're assuming drivetribe won't go the way of drivers republic, drive+ etc.

i liked jethro in evo, he fit, i didn't like trott or catchpole, glad they're gone.

Good point, but there is a lot more money behind drivetribe, than there was for the others you mentioned.

i wish them success. its a tough nut to crack. CHOC set the bar so high...

im quite pleased Chris Harris has left all this behind and got a spot hosting Top Gear though, he was one of the only people i could see taking over when the old guard left/died/retired. it was a strange way for him to get on there but, judging from this first series, i think he has finally found a home and will be stellar in this role. very happy for him.

JBov is a great journo. We are starved of Harris since he joined the TG circus (i.e.mainstream junk) so for all intents and purposes, Harris is "dead to me". JBov is the new no. 1 in the world of YouTube auto-journalism.

I'll be watching this thread with anticipation and can't wait to hear more details about your converted RS build!

pretty ridiculous comment. CH on TG is greatness, not "mainstream junk." The new trio makes that show watchable again and really entertaining imo. CH's pieces on TG have been fantastic.

Jethro is mediocre as a video journo, as was Catchpole, Metcalfe etc. I have not yet seen a video journo that can hold a candle to CH. He was in another league. Jethro was a decent writer though, probably the best medium for him.

Re-read what I wrote. I didn't say Harris was junk, I said the show that he joined is mainstream junk and as a result we are starved of his content. I don't want to sit through 45 minutes of awkwardness just for 5 minutes of CH greatness. Yes, he brings a lot to the show but not enough to make the show great (FWIW I disliked it when clarkson, Hammond and May were at their peak). It's just too dumbed down for non-enthusiasts for my liking.

Onto Bovingdon, now that Harris has left YT, name a better journo out there that we have access to? Catchpole and Dicky are as smug as they come. Steve Sutcliffe tries hard but it comes across as exactly that. I personally always enjoy watching Jethro's content and his opinion carries weight. It helps that he's obviously a genuine Porsche fanatic.
