Right time to upgrade from 997.1 to 997.2?
 

I have been contemplating selling my .1 GT3 for a .2 for several years now. However, the price delta and whether the improvement was worth it has deterred me. I drive my GT3 only about 1500 miles a year on the street. Considering the minimal usage it wasn't worth the extra $25k-30k.

Do you guys see that price delta shrinking now that the 991.2 GT3 will be offered with a 6mt? I figured the higher priced 997.2 gt3s would feel the price pressure much more than the less expensive .1 cars.

Thoughts?

For street driving, .2 slightly more compliant ride, more torque, lift available, little better interior/interface, clutch not quite as stiff. I think .1 more fun to drive. 7.2 superior on paper and around a track. I like wing/looks of .2 better. I like the drive experience of the .1 better on street.

Spread between the two tighter than ever. Over time, I don't think there will be much of a spread between the two. They will both be decrepit, but fun antiques compared to new GT offerings. It will be about nostalgia then, not performance.

I've read posts that state the .1 is more raw with edgier handling and the engine character more exciting and rev happy.

But also read many posts stating the .2 is just a better overall car in all categories. I've only been behind the wheel of a .2 for a short drives. Seems most feel the handling is much better dialed in from the factory on the .2.

The Porsche dealers are going to be asking a premium of $25k per car allocated to them above MSRP. Can't you just go in and order the car for MSRP and wait for it to be delivered, or pick it up in Germany?
It pisses me off that the dealers get to hold an auction for something that should be readily available to the public.

Having debated long and hard on a 7.1 vs 7.2 before ultimately deciding on a 7.2 about a year ago I can honestly say if you're happy with the looks of the 7.1, the driving experience is so similar that it's not worth the cost to trade in and pay sales tax again.

I see prices for both holding steady or softening slightly in the short term with the new 991.2 manual coming out, but long term I see them both going up and being very sought after.

Finding a clean, low mileage, no paint work, good DME, no stories car is very rare in my experience. If you have a 7.1 that fits that bill keep it! It may be very hard to find another in comparable condition, maybe impossible. Of all the GT3's I looked at while searching, I was disappointed far more times than I was impressed.

Trading up to a .2 is not a substantial change. Keep in mind that you KNOW your car and its condition vs. paying more for an unknown car, even though you will have paid for a PPI. Grass is not that greener on the other side...... :o

If you want an upgrade, get a second mortgage and go for an RS :evilgrin:

IMO not worth it if you only drive 1500 miles on the road/year.
The car you have is great and the only reason to do it is if you prefer the look of the .2

Its always helpful to hear the voice of reason from others.

I'm very happy with my car. I'm the second owner no issues, all original, well maintained and no overrevs.

However, on the rare occasion I see a .2 they just look a little slicker. I like the look of the center locks even though I hear they are a pain.

The second mortgage is right in regards to an RS. :(

You have a great car already. Forum hype clouds judgement. Get outside, drive your car more often and collect experiences you'll cherish forever. :thumbup:

Agree with all of the comments. Not that big of a difference - plus you have a history with your car.

997.2 is all-around nicer imho.

Did anyone on here hear? Porsche brought the manual in the GT3! May want to wait a little before buying a 997.2, the prices will probably dip somewhat.

I haven't seen a picture of an actual 991 GT3 manual yet, and if you try to build it on their website, there is no option for a manual. That said, R&T is reputable.
