How many 997 GT3/RS owners to get 991.2 manual GT3?
#16
I would consider trading my 996gt3 track car for a 991.1gt3 with a replaced engine (G) Hopefully prices are dropping like crazy on the 991.1 so it doesn't hurt to bad to upgrade.
997rs isn't going anywhere.

Yep! This exactly... the 997.2 RS is always a keeper. I know someone who deeply regrets selling their 997.2 RS.

like you tried GT4
motorsport derived engine means nothing. it still takes time. mezger had 40+ years to get it right.
yes, very different. must have both
I like the fact that they finally will have a motorsport developed engine. Not sure what's going to happen to the 991.1 GT3 market. My thinking right now is to keep my 997.2. The price difference in trading/buying a 991.2 is probably 60K. Think I could have a lot more fun adding a Cayman S to my garage for the difference in dollars.
I have a 997.2 RS. I've also had a good amount of seat time in both 991.1 GT3 and RS. I'm getting a 991.2 GT3 in manual, but only to add to the 997.2 RS...never to replace as they are two different cars.
I feel that the 997 RS offers a different driving experience, one that doesn't exist in the same form anymore.
The 997 RS, however, from its chassis dimensions, mezger engine, SMFW mated to its manual transmission setup, to the actual numbers produced, it will always be special to me and it is a keeper.

Although I'm open minded about how good the 991.2 GT3 may be, I think everyone is right who is saying that the 997 vintage presents an overall feeling that is lost now, quite probably never to be re-captured. For that alone, I prefer the older platform a lot.
Additionally, and certainly on my mind...they wildly over-produce the 991 generation of GT3s and I don't see that stopping anytime soon. I love that my own 997.2 GT3 RS is one of 1500 sold worldwide, and I think that the RS moniker is no longer nearly as sacred as it once was to Porsche in terms of outright collect-ability. Sure, the global marketplace is bigger than ever and demands more cars, but I really do enjoy the limited cars, and fear that we won't see that anymore with the latest generation.

I think it's really a matter of adding to your stable or not. Steve makes some great points.
The 997.2 RS and RS 4.0 are just such special cars. I wouldn't ever let one of those go while your body could still drive one.
I love the driving dynamics of the 997. If I didn't have a serious issue with my left leg (at 40 yrs old no less), I'd love to drive a 997.2 RS.
In the meantime, PDK-S shifted manually in my 991 GT3 is the next best thing.

They did a nice job adding some black to the front bumper, rear winglets and intake scoops.
Naaaat
No thanks. I will watch the game of musical chairs play out amongst the gt4/991.1 gt3/991.1rs/991.2 gt3/ gt4 rs ... crowd.

I am getting a 991.2GT3 M/T for sure.
I have been vocal about their dumb decision to not offer the M/T. And it seems like some of the VW execs on "job rotation" at Porsche have since returned to Lower Saxony making license plates (Dr. Hatz) and we will get some normalcy...

but i hear many talking about steering feel and vintage feel. i grew up driving long hood. and i just added 86 and 72. and likely a 73 in a few day. compared to those, 7gt3 has very little steering feel, literally no bump steer issues and drives itself. i would bet half of the 7gt drivers can't shift to save their lives in a 915.

The current 9A1 in GT3 trim doesn't exactly have a stellar rep...
