Switching from 997.2GT3 to 997.1GT3RS
#31
very interesting and informative discussion..
I'm new to this forum thing
i own a 996.2 gt3 speed yellow and 997 gts manual, in carrara.
end of q2 next year will be receiving the new 991.2 gt3 with manual gear and hopefully a touring pack. therefore, there is a thought or an idea to swap the gts the and 6.2 gt3 for 997.1/2 gt3 rs. that will leave me with only 2 Porsches (less costs and logistic headaches) and hopefully some extra cash, which i defiantly need for the new gt3.
im not a track fighter, but i do love the drive and feel of a raw machine, progressive feedback and pure connection. care less about lp, more about the smile on my face
i love the 997.1 gt3 rs looks better and its a bit cheaper but its hard to let go my yellow scramble egg! and the gts is just a brilliant car as well! however it serves a very similar purpose to the manual 1.2 gt3 with touring pack i guess.. and while i love the size of 997 and the overall feeling over the 991, i think the manual 991 gt3 will be a very special car to drive!
some of you might hate it, but future value is important to me as well.
im 33 and pretty busy with work, 3rd child on the way and so on.. so i don't get to drive my cars that often and i do keep low km on them.
I must make financial seance to my car hobby, not into flipping cars thing but whatever i buy should keep on increasing in value , cant afford to spend such amounts just for fun, at least for now..
just sharing my thoughts here and will be interested what you guys think!
should i consider the swap: 996.2 gt3 + 997 manual gts for 997.1/2 gt3 rs?

You will never stop wanting an RS.

The reason I ask, my 2010 GT3 received a 2011 GT3RS engine back in 2014 after a money shift from previous owner. Love this car and the power is amazing. And it's nice to have the heart of an RS.

if you have a 997.2GT3, then you must move to a 997.2RS.
As good as the 997.1RS is, you will want the upgrade to a 997.2RS coming from a 997.2GT3. It is hard to go back down the ladder unless you are a collector.

Agree, moving down in hp is a mistake. Move up to an RS or do a money shift and buy a .2 RS motor from LA Dismantlers. LOL!
Oh and I'm installing some 997.2 RS seats this week. Pics are coming.

Hold on your 997.2 GT3 its a great car.
Drive the **** out of it and have fun. Invest the money for tires, brakes.
its not always better to invest more for a fun car (RS) and worry about value and so on.

Meh, well driven and on track the 997.1RS and 997.2 cars are basically the same pace. You do need to up the game on the .1 suspension. Stock for stock the .2 is faster, mainly due to the chassis calibration, not the HP. Around town the .2 feels like it has a bit more grunt due to the torque curve, its the next gen variocam vs. anything though. Comes on a bit harder, but when on boil, the cars are near identical.
So if it's me, I choose RS, because RS. The .2RS is a faster car, about 1-2 seconds a lap on a 2min lap around here. 991GT3 and 991RS are much more so.
To put it in perspective, a GT4 and 997.1 are about same pace. Of course cars are 10 years apart!
