Default MY 997.1 GT3 gone - IROC RSR tribute build coming

Wanted to thank all that took time to read and respond to my questions and comments during my 2 year GT3 ownership. With much thought and reservation , I decided to go a very different direction. IMO, the earlier MT GT3 cars are the best modern 911s, hands down. I
Unfortunately, not being in a position to have 3 Porches, I have made arrangements with RS-Werks on an IROC build.
It's not going to be an exact replica but more of a tribute build, using a 1988 G50 car, with a 964 - 3.6L motor. Briefly, it will have a duck tail as the original race cars were delivered to USA (prior to the racing wings being installed), RSR interior, ac and radio delete, roll-up windows, period replica racing seats in houndstooth, lightweight carpet, RSR doorcards.
The donor car is black, so I've decided to stick with that color since one of the IROC RSRs was black.
I plan on visiting the forum to keep up with the GT chatter/information since I love the cars and keep up with all the Porche racing series in person and TV coverage.

A few other things as information about the build: the fender flares are steel, RSR bumpers are plastic, as is the ducktail. Wheels will be 17" Fiske and planning to go with the stock RSR finish vs. colored centers, etc.

You will love it when you are done! Here's the '87 G50 Carerra that my brother and I backdated to a IROC-look back in 2010. He and I did all the work including paint, except for having he 930 rear flares professionally butt-welded in place. We also took a few liberties (17" wheels, duck, and kept the original Marine Blue color) so it is probably more '74 Carrera 3.0 RS than IROC although both cars shared the same body style back in the day.

In 2012 I traded it toward a long-time Porsche friend's '07 GT3 which I still have. While I like the GT3 a lot, if I had it to do over again I would have kept the '87 as it was actually more fun to drive on the street and I don't track the GT3. Hopefully someday I will reacquire it when/if a serious buyer for the GT3 materializes. If so, the plan is to do a color change to Peru Red.

Jackb911-love your build, unique but understated; enjoyed your comments.

Please start a build thread when you start, I enjoy seeing guys go down this road.

There isn't anything quite like a car that you built. Especially when it turns out so nice! Any chance you still race Formula Vee?

Nope, that was way back in my younger days. My avatar pic was a "barn find" 1963 Formcar FV that I restored in 1985. Sold it in 1990 due to divorce. Wish I still had it! It is currently in France being competitively vintage raced by it's very enthusiastic current owner who still furnishes me with regular updates.

Huh, go figure! Very neat car. Always felt the vintage Vee's were a great gateway into racing.

FastAlpine-I needed my GT3 as part of the deal to buy the IROC build, so it went to the owner of RS-Werks.

Ahh ok, nice. Just curious because I saw that one went up for sale recently in West Chester.

GMGRacing-I'll figure out how to do a build thread-right now my 1988 donor car is pretty much stripped and on a rotisserie, front and rear flares are completed, and exterior is primered.

If any more questions feel free to email me or call, so not to use the GT3 forum for my personal stuff.

G50 IROC build with a 964 motor sounds good to me!

looking forward to seeing this badass car!

15" on avons would really set it off IMO.
