4.0 Clutch Question
While having my coolant pipes welded, I also upgraded the LSD, LWFW and 4.0 clutch. In almost every respect, the car felt great yesterday at THill. The changes were noticeable, and I was able to drop a full second of my best time (with tires that were about shot).
The only complaint I have, however, is that the clutch doesn't feel as smooth as the OEM. I've always been fairly smooth shifting, but yesterday I actually missed a couple upshifts which I've never done. It's not terrible but just seems more rigid. Also, putting the car in reverse sucks. I seriously have to attempt reverse at least 3 times before I can get it to work.
Is this normal?

Starting point is to have the shop readjust the shifting cables. Properly adjusted it should shift perfectly.
When you say clutch not smooth, do you mean the action of pushing the clutch pedal? or the act of shifting?
The LSd is probably responsible for the better times. Much better confidence under braking and acceleration.

I agree with you about the LSD. The the thing that was most noticeable to me was the difference in how responsive the accelerator felt. It definitely revs faster with the lighter weight flywheel.

Yep I'd definitely start with them adjusting the cables.
Your engine was out and could be off just a bit.

If clutch feels 'light' and crunching/missing shifts I would get the system bleed as well as checking the cable adjustment... did the shop have the plastic adjustment tool to centre the gear leaver and are you using the OEM shifter?, 4.0 and LWFW should feel the same just more noise/clatter and quicker rev'ing (your heal and toe technique will need pefecting here!) than with the .1 GT3 dual mass flywheel.

It's interesting you mentioned heal/toe because that was another thing that was off. I don't proclaim to be great in the first place, but I was definitely missing it some yesterday. It revs up and also comes back down so much faster than the dual mass. Maybe it's in my head, but it might be the best mod to the car so far. It just feels so much more responsive.

Did you change the pressure plate while you did this clutch job?

Call me crazy, but the fluid can also make a difference. I notice this when going between Porsche fill and Delvac. The Porsche fill seems to be smoother and my understanding is it has different additives for the synchros. If a track car it is not worth the extra cost as you will change the fluid too often. If a street car it might be worth the extra cost to you.
