BIG spark connecting battery
When connecting a new battery today on our 997 there was a STRONG spark at the neg terminal which I did not think was normal. We have been having discharge problems with the old battery which wouldn't hold a charge (only abt 3+ years old). At one point I was able to measure an 86 mA draw btwn the disconnected negative clamp and the battery post, but then the aligator clip slipped off and I lost it and my PCM settings before I could begin sequentially pulling fuses from the box to try and find the offending circuit. I was not able to recreate the mysterious drain. Any suggestions/advise greatly appreciated. THANK YOU!

That's less than 1 watt the bulb in the frunk should be about 10w. 86ma is not a lot and once car sleeps it should be less.
Spark wasn't big if you're still standing :-) |
^^^ agree, current draw is likely, something on like door open and interior light plus frunk light etc.
Unless you left the ignition in the on position or you have a start solenoid problem all should be good. |
While installing the battery connector to car battery the wrench touched both + and - terminal. What a spark and what a jolt!!!! Mike

In my youth I welded several wrenches to battery posts.
I am more careful now. All the best..... |

The impossible location of that battery always annoys me - last time I stood inside the frunk to get the new one in
