Default Need some help RE: 2010 GT3

Hi guys,

Need your expertise-looking to purchase a 2010 GT3. Few questions:

1. What are the must have options?
2. What should I look out for?
3. Is Sports Chrono an important option (this car does not have it).

Any other tips would be most appreciated.

Thanks so much for the input!

my opinions only

1. Axle lift, Dynamic Engine Mounts. Both probably a bit controversial. But where I live the axle lift is a godsend. Yes the sensors/software may have some bugs, but overall works well. I am told for resale it is good to have. The dynamic engine mounts were standard on the 997.2 RS and will be moving forward on 991 gt3/RS. Really, I personally think outside of those performance options, everything else is optional. Some may say for street, the PCCBs are nice to have, but not for track.
2. Ask to see the DME report to check for overrevs of the engine and a good PPI. My experience has been that there have been very few problems. There was some kind of service bulletin/recall on the centerlock wheels, make sure that was taken care of.
3. The sports chrono is a love or hate thing. I hate it. Many here feel the same, that it disrupts the clean lines of the dash. For true track work, there are many temporary device options. This is purely personal I think.

Biggest factors determining value
1- has it been extensively tracked
2- has it been modified in any way
3- any paint, body, or mechanical work done to the car
4- clean carfax
5 - how many miles
6 - is it still under warranty and/or CPO candidate
7- how many owners
8- color combination

I am sure that I am forgetting something, but these are my first thoughts. Values on high end can run close to $120 for very low mileage no track no stories examples to the $90s for cars with some mileage on them or heavily modified. My experience, your mileage may vary, blah blah

Axle lift. Axle lift. Axle lift.
Mine does not have it.
I have to pull up perpendicular to my driveway and inch up to clear the entrance. And I must approach my street from the opposite side of the block because the crowning of the road on the cross street scrapes the splitter.

That is the one "must have" if I were doing it all over. Instead, I have several grand invested in deviated stitching that does nothing.

My take:

1. Nothing really. Bucket seats is nice especially if you want to track. As for front axle lift that others mentioned, I don't think it is mandatory. I don't have it and I don't miss it. But I guess it depends on where you live and how steep the driveways you regularly use are. The front lips are anyway cheap to replace.

2. PPI the car, look at the DME report for any over revs. Conventional wisdom seems to be stage 1 and 2 is okay. Rest not so.

3. NO. It is the most useless option. I especially looked for a car with out it. And I am not alone.

Good luck!

Here are my thoughts when I was buying my non-RS .2

1) This was going to be my weekend car and get driven on the weekends, I needed a Navi and dynamic motor mounts. The would like to have options were full leather, bluetooth, and front lift for me.

2) Get a PPI and the DME to check for overrevs....most importantly if it's a private party feel out the owner. Often times you buy or not buy because of the owner. Also, you definitely want to get service records if you can. If the car has been tracked, you want to make sure it's been maintained well.

3) Completely useless....I've never once used it in my non-RS or RS.

Good luck on your search.

1. No options preferred. This is 100% personal and the only thing i'd want as a "near" must have would be carbon sports buckets.
2. If you've not owned at GT3, find a local shop that does, and have them do a full PPI with the full story on what they see on the car. Where are you located? Crew here knows all the good shops and can recommend one.
3. NO. Won't buy a car w/ it!

Thanks so much for the information-certainly feel better prepared to know what to look out for. Sounds like a PPI and DEM report are really important. Really appreciate all the input will keep you all posted on the hunt!

Nice but not a must. Especially is everything else is perfect for what you want.

Must-have options are what makes you happy. For me it was a non-metallic color, excluding black, and sport buckets. My car also came with the engine mounts which is a cool option. I would've liked the cornering lights and PCM but it wasn't a deal breaker.

I wouldn't worry so much about resale. Buy the car to enjoy it and create fun memories! It's supposed to be a depreciating asset after all.

1. Depends on use. For a car that will do street time, I love to have Nav and sound package (SPP). More street time, probably prefer sports seats vs. buckets. More track, buckets. I desperately wanted axle lift but after buying a car without it, it's not really that important. Just buy an extra lip. Dynamic mounts are massively overhyped in my opinion, especially if you don't track. If you do and your car doesn't have them, put in Wevo's or RSS mounts. When I bought my car, I asked all the major CA tuners if they would retrofit the DEM's and all said "don't waste your money".

2. A detailed owner history, clean PPI, accelerated maintenance even for non-tracked cars. An owner who LOVES their car and it shows in the condition.

3. SC is a waste. I have it. Never use it.

Really appreciate the feedback. I am not planning on tracking the car....just want to enjoy owning a piece of history and feeling the rawness of the GT3. S

Thanks again to all for their feedback!

Asking what options are must haves is like asking what color do you prefer... It varies from person to person and you're going to get a variety of replies :-)

Personally I like to have the least electronic gadgets. Axle lift, navigation (in a GT3 are you kidding me?), the useless sports chrono... I also don't like the look of the dynamic lights which house 2 projectors instead of one in the center on the standard lights.

My favorite option is full leather. You get the beautiful dash and the alcantara everywhere. It's beautiful. On a .2 sport buckets would be a must for me as well.

Just take your time and do your research and decide what are your must haves must not haves and go from there!
