GP Automotive Renewal Service: GT3RS - Phase 2, Clear Bra, and Nano Coating
Had an opportunity to make this GT3RS look the part. Client wanted the clear bra removed and replaced. We ended up having to perform an advanced paint correction as well to remove all the imperfections in the paint. To protect moving forward, and add an insane amount of gloss and depth, we applied a nano coating to all exterior surfaces, including clear bra.
Initial Condition:
Usual pre-cut with exposed edges
Clear bra removed and you can see what was underneath. Lots of swirls and scratches
Removing adhesive left behind from old clear bra
Here are a few before/after shots of the paint swirls being removed with our paint correction process
It's the small details that make our jobs more gratifying. Only way to properly correct the paint, on decklid and wing, is to simply remove the wing. Client may never see this, but we know things are done the right way. Experience and patience...that's why we're considered Porsche specialists.
Nano coating application is the final icing on the cake. On this GT3RS, we used CQuartz Finest. Client likes to maintain all his cars, so this coating will make cleaning easy.

Coating flashed and bonded to surface

Great question. The nano coating we used is basically a super-sealant, or glass coating, that bonds to the surface we apply it to. The particles are so small, typical wax or sealant is size of planet earth and a nano molecule is the size of a marble. Since most surfaces are porous and are like peaks and valleys (paint, glass, wheel surface), the tighter and more densely you can pack particle in the crevices, the more protection in this case. So, the nano basically is like little marbles and it forms a 3-d mesh structure over the surface.
This translates to extreme protection, durability, and enhanced gloss and clarity. The nano coating exhibits a scratch-resistance feature and self-cleaning feature since it's hydrophobic. You can rinse the paint and most, if not all, the first just rinses right off. Pretty cool.

Absolutely. The installer needs to decontaminate the clear bra, prepare it for the coating, then apply the coating. You will then be given a maintenance spray to keep the nano coating fresh for 12-24 months depending on care and use.

In what respect? There are many companies claiming nano, but please research and find a reputable one. Currently, we use CQuartz Finest and Modesta.
Regarding its effect on your vehicle, so far, only positive stuff.
How it effects the health of the installer, well...let's just say we wear gloves and respirator when applying the product.

Nano coatings have been around for some time now. Most detailers offer such coatings for ultimate protection. My car was coated with Modesta BC-05 and turned out great. Opticoat pro and CQuartz are also good coatings. Search YouTube for Opticoat and Modesta for good info. Also check AutoGeek forums for even more info. Here's a nice RS 4.0 coated by Paul Dalton
