Default Texas engine oil temps

What's a safe max temp? Does the weight of the oil make a huge difference?

Asked this exact question of my shop a few weeks back when a few of us were out in the desert with 105 shade temps. Answer was 270 or so to be safe. I never saw temps above 245 with my car. That's the hottest I've seen it too. (Torco SR5 oil with water wetter)

Good to know. I was running about 245 at COTA, but TexasRS was in the 225 range, so I thought something might be wrong.
