Default CPO Work on Oil Leak

Need some advice from the experts... AKA.. The folks here.

Car in shop getting work done under CPO. Appears to have a fairly significant oil cooler leak fitting on Top of engine. Thought it was RMS but turns out not to be.

CPO is covering the work. They will be pulling the engine.

Since the engine is out I asked for a price to do the coolant hoses / welded.

Dealer gave me a price north of 3K... That seems high with the engine already out under warranty..

Any solid advice on this one?

Thanks

In speaking with the shop that welded the coolant lines on my car for the previous owner it was ~$4500.

Once engine is out the labor to remove, clean, and weld the housing should be less than 10 hours. You may want add a water pump depending on miles (~350). Feels a bit steep to me since the bulk of the labor on these jobs is the remove and replace of the engine. I'd ask if that $3k also includes replacement of a bunch of other rubber hoses while engine is out.

Wow! $3000/$150 per hr. = 20 hr. to remove the parts which are right in front of you after the engine is out. The welder won't spend more than 2 hours with a TIG torch. A friend recently experienced the same problem you described. His was on a 2010 GT3.

Sounds like they are charging like it's 2 separate jobs. The cpo will cover the removal of the engine, oil leak fix and the reinstall.

Then Porsche service charges for the removal again, welding and reinstall, without actually removing the engine again.

I bet the dealer is having to hire some one to come in and do the welding...

Dealer is sending items over to have welded... I called and pushed on the price today and got the story about how in depth the job was and blah, blah, blah... I was figuring around 2K.. I called some local NON PORSCHE dealer type's and they gave me quotes around 2500 starting from scratch..

I guess I will just go ahead and bend over since I want it done. I guess that is the other advantage Porsche has with CPO.. You go in for warranty work and still drop 3K..

At least they didn't balk whatsoever on fixing the oil leak. Read all the horror stories about denied claims.. I have 6 months left on CPO... Only have 9K miles on car..
