Sorry, don't know the answer. The water-cooled motors will always have an advantage with respect to specific output, since the air-cooled heads are only 2-valve/cyl. But, I don't have exact numbers...

RGT-8 with 4.5 liter V8 engine:
• Output 404 kW (550 bhp) at 8,500 RPM, maximum torque 500 Nm (369 ft-lbs) at 5400 RPM

http://www.rufauto.us/index.php?opti...109&Itemid=174

Interesting that Ruf has decided to split the difference between individual throttles per cylinder and single throttle body:

They have one throttle per bank of cylinders (like my 550 Maranello did).

That price makes Sharky's 3.9 a definite winner!

What are these rumors of a new 4.1 Shark?

Thanks for posting this, I guess this means it is a go. I was first told about the new proprietary crank in April of last year. I don't know if they buy the blank and make it in house or it is subbed out but they have the CNC equipment in house to do it themselves. At that time, the motor had already been built, installed and was running in a 997.2GT3 (variocam) for a long time customer who was using it as a daily driver as well as using it on the Nordschleife regularly. This winter the customer's motor was completely stripped down and inspected for wear, rebuilt and dyno'd. Since the 4.4L is now "official" it must have met with Manthey's approval. For those who haven't worked with MM yet their customer service is equivalent to their technical expertise, exceptional. 2 week build time typically, fixed price, one year warranty (over rev's are not coverd so be careful ), typical long term Manthey reliability, no surprises or excuses. I'm sure that figure includes full exhaust, they only use Akra on their street cars. Just one more good reason to put as many miles on your OEM motor as possible to one day warrant a dream rebuild.

RUF #s are usually very conservative. A while back I spoke with the RUF US rep and they had just brought one of these into the states for a customer. The sound this engine makes apparently is to die for!

Must've been for track use only - just spoke to Ruf today and they said the engine is still not certified after 2 years and he didn't sound very optimistic about having it ready anytime soon. Speculated price is $325k.

Sport Auto 10/2013 writes that Manthey raced that 4.4l engine in VLN SP8-class. Just after 2 hours at engine dyno it did 6 hours of racing. Placed 4th in variable weather (tyre roulette) with a Stop 'n' Go penalty. 9400 rpm, 530 hp / 497 Nm through two 31.0 mm restrictors...
They also write that when Manthey first time brought the 4.0l engine to Nürburgring 24h race Porsche engineers propheted an early fiasco. The engine withstanded, Manthey Team won the race and continued racing that engine without any revisions in VLN until the engine "finally" gave up after 52 hours of racing because of valve damage.

So maybe the 4.4l engine has some testing done.

Was told this by Mike Melville, about a year ago. I was under the impression the car was priced at about $250K. I thought the car went to some place in south Florida.

You won't need the extra $15k - might even get a rebate (price without options should be around $79k for Z06).

Interesting. Did you have the impression that the guy registered it on the road?
