Keep your damn faceshield down when racing. We had a connecting rod go through our windshield in our crappy lemons car. Caught it on video. Shown on Jalopnik. The glass powder went everywhere. You just never know. The guy in the video tried twice to put it down while spinning out. And yes, wear protective clothing. Jeans and a tshirt ain't going to cut it if the SHTF

When I tracked, you were black flagged for visor up, sunroof tipped up, or drivers window not down. I always drove with full sleeves, neck brace and gloves.
Loved the letting go of the wheel, checking over the shoulder, and counter spinning the wheel. Obviously not his first rodeo. Very nice attempt at recovery. Glad he walked away.
Any story you can tell, is a good story.

I've not tracked like alot of you guys here but I reviewed the vid a couple of times and it looks like he lets off the gas just before the ***-end breaks loose. I can't tell if he braked or not. Did he have the PSC turned off that might allow the ***-end to break coupled with some track oil perhaps? Ouch. Such a nice car.

You don't want to be holding the wheel when you hit - it will break your thumbs.

Really? I guess being loose on impact is safer then bracing the wheele

When you're properly belted in and restrained, trying to brace yourself actually increases your risk of injury. You're not strong enough to hold yourself in any position against the forces the occur in a high-speed impact, and you will actually cause a transfer of energy from the surface you're bracing against into your body - and that's bad.

Here is the original thread created by the driver.

The car came out looking surprisingly well when you look at the "After" pics which can be seen here

Wow, amazing! Shows how critical is a track setup and safety. His car came back less harmed than some basic crashes I've seen on track days around my area!

Those absorbent materials on the guard rails completely saved his car, and most likely more injuries to him. Amazing!

No Hans device? He wasn't really serious about racing and safety gear.

Well, he got out of his car on a hot track that apparently had a fluid spill in the straight leading directly to where his car came to rest. I think it is safe to say he wasn't all that serious about safety.

The driver did mention in the other thread that he needed to get a HANS device, but the follow-on discussion said a HANS device does nothing for side impacts.

160 MHP? I don't know many tracks where it is possible in a Carrera to go that fast. This guy was somewhere in fifth gear and I'd say closer to mid 130's.

Looks like all four were are on track but I cannot tell if there was any steering inputs as he lifted for breaking. Heartbreaking accident but only equipment damaged. One can get ten days of track insurance (20% deductable) for under $2k because I'd hate to have to find out if my insurance carrier would cover it.
