Need advice 997.1 GT3 purchase guidance
Looking at a GT3 a.1 car
questions-
how many track miles is "high miles" for the motor? Would a car that has seen 15,000+ track miles considered to be pretty worn?
-when would a motor be due for a refresh? approx budget for a refresh?
what should be reasonable expectation of transmission & clutch service life?
car has all the right suspension mods, rollbar, coolant coupling fix, safety equipment, and desired options
would appreciate the collective wisdom and input.

15,000 miles of strictly track is a pretty fair amount, however, how it’s been serviced and cared for is the major factor. Also, what type of driver is the owner? I think it’s important because if the thing has been bouncing off the rev limiter the entire 15k miles, it would be different than a guy who shifts at 7000 RPM on each shift. So I wouldn’t say it’s worn, but I’d like to know more about it’s life.
Porsche seems to spout that the cars are designed for 100,000 service life – I think that’s BS though. The motors in GT3 are pretty damn stout. Refresh will be needed when the numbers say it’s needed.
The tranny and clutch are in the same category as the engine. I just did a clutch at 50k miles due to replacement of the rear main and it was only half worn. Clearly, the first owner of my car was kind.
There will be a lot of replies here if guys who have run these cars for a number of years so you’ll get a good idea. Also I may be considering selling my car, so if your deal falls thought feel free to PM me.

I was just at an event where a guy had a 996 GT3 with 80,000+ plus, virtually ALL of them on track. Car is strong as ever. Expect the same from a .1GT3.
15,000 track miles, with good maintenance, is nothing.

15K miles is nothing for those cars. If the car was 60-80K I would check compression, leak down and also readings from oil sample, from time to time and monitor it's health.

Always start with a DME scan & print out first then a PPI if you decide to move forward from there. Mileage is irrelevant if the previous driver drove it like he stole it or money shifted. Here is a link to get you started:

There are too many good cars still out there for sale or havent come up for sale just yet that havent been rung out. My '10 has > 29.000KM,has seen many of those KM's from 10 different tracks on two continents, regularly drives on the Autobahn "flat out" and my last DME had 27 Range 1's. Just sayin'....
Buy the owner/driver not the car.
