Default 997.1 Gt-3 RS rims and tires best buy?

Looking for some ideas. 2007 GT3 RS. New to me this year. Looking for tires....fronts are original and need replacing, rears are new this year. Most likely R888 for track days due to price and the fact that the tire is descent. The car is primarily a track day car with the odd sunday blast in the country. Thinking 18" as this will give me a second set of wheels and if something changes (ie tire prices or availiability in the future) I can switch street tires with track tires and vice versa on stock wheels. Thinking 235 front and 335 rear. I have read many posts and still cannot decide. I have looked at alot of wheels and cant get my hear around the pricing over and above OZ. (Also looking at red as the car is white and that is a great combo). Looking for opinions. Am I right? Should I wait and find a used set of 18" track wheels? Should I go 19? (In which case I will just put R888 on my stock wheels). I anticipate to keep the car for life. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Any reputable and proven at the track wheel will do. The lighter the better.

I prefer 18" for many reasons and would never save money on tires. (888s are good assuming that nothing better is available near you and for most regions something is)

A wider tire is never bad as long as the wheel's width can accommodate it without compromising its optimum working range.
Also, the front to rear width ratio should be considered when deciding.

That about sums it up.

Color, and despite the fact that all wheels should be silver as all cars should be black by law, is mostly a personal choice without functional consequences . : )

I need to point out that Toyo R888's have been having some issues with the tread seem coming apart and splitting. Tire Rack took 4 R888's back from me early this year and I had 2 more fall apart last year.

I could never recommend R888's to anyone and I think I was the last guy on these forums that used R888's as most hate this tire anyway.

I now use Nitto NT01 on 18's. If I was using 19" for track I would use Pirelli Trofeo.

This is the first time I have heard something bad about R888. I do run NT-01s on my other car. I am looking at the ratio, hense the tire sizes I beleive are corrrect.

Stick with your stock wheels and Michelin Pilot Super Sports. Best combo for what you are doing.

If you must have a set of 18's, then wait for used or buy new affordable CCW if on a budget.
For 18" track wheels you wont find better then the NT-01 for what you are doing. They make 245 front and 305 rears i believe.....

In Florida, all the RS guys are running 18" Nitto NT-01 245 front and 18" Toyo RA-1 rear 335.
D.E cup special.

The combo is magical for DOT tires.
Until Nitto make a 335 rear, this is the business.

$900 a set, 4 days on the rear, 8 days on the fronts. A couple of seconds off R6 and 3-5 seconds off slicks

Well its true I have pics saved on a hard drive if you want to see. I had 1 tire split the tread seam back in 2011. Then I went and tried Michelin Sport Cups. Those had less grip than R888 so I went back to R888 in mid 2012. Had 2 tires split the seam and Toyo wanted the tires back and they gave me a pro-rated credit for new tires. I bought new R888 tires from Tire Rack and split 4 of them. Tire Rack took the tires back and gave me credit.

No issues with tread seam splitting on the old Toyo Ra1's or the Michelin Pilot Sport Cups or the Nitto NT01's I have been using.

After all that I am done with R888. Also others at the track have split the R888 seams as well but not a lot of guys are running R888 anymore as they heat cycle out fast and lose grip. 5-6 times of running a R888 on the street and they get hard as plastic. I can't recommend R888 for what you want to do with them. The Toyo R888 is really a all around awful tire and a total waste of money.

Nice price. I am having issues even finding RA1 anywhere in that size. No luck at tire rack. Where are people buying them for $900 a set. Sound great.

Florida D.E underground item.

Unless you have a golden ticket to TRAKCAR's stash....

Thanks for the info. I will give them a pass.

If you have steel brakes, then 18" OZ Allegerita, if PCCB, then 18" CCW wheels.

Tires: NT01 245/305. It's perfect.

Close thread.

Steel brakes. The ratio at this size is slightly off. Is this something you run and it works?

The ratio is perfectly fine. I run 245/305, been running it for 2 years, zero issues...Nitto just released the NT01 with the 305-35-18 size.

For steel brakes, I'd get OZ allegeritas, as they clear the rotors/calipers and are a great price.

You cannot beat this combo for the track. Don't waste your time with hoosiers, learn to drive on quickly on these tires and you'll end up being faster than 99% of RS owners on Hoosiers, and have more fun in the process.
