Default Street Tire Pressure

Am I the only one surprised at the low recommeded tire pressures on a 997.2 GT3?

29/31 psi, really?? The 996 GT3 was 32/39. I know the Porsche Turbos are close to 40psi.

I gave Porsche the benefit of the doubt, ran the recommended tire pressures, and got a puncture last night. As far as I know, low tire pressure is the main cause of punctures. Are all of you running the factory spec tire pressure, without issue?

It was a slow audible leak, and the factory tire sealant did not work. Maybe I'm just pissed that I wasted 2.5hrs last night on a flat tire... Serenity now!

Sorry about the flat. That sucks.

Yes. I've been running my MPSC's at those pressures with zero issues over 5 sets. I would imagine you could comfortably run them a little higher so long as you bleed off a little pressure if you go for a spirited drive. They seem to like 32f/35r hot.

No clue. I take my stock wheels/tires off my cars as soon as I get them.
I usually start cold at 18 rear and 20 front - but that is for R6 Hoosiers. lol

Porsche dealer called, guess I ran over some yellow steel bracket. Probably debris from some of the construction work in the area.

Now the objective will be to take more right hand corners...

The cups I ran as specified on the tyre placard... For street tyres (ie MPSS), I run them at turbo tyre pressures as per the michelin book, ie 36/40.... Hope this helps

And sorry to hear about your troubles...

I doubt the tires pressures had anything to do with getting a puncture. I had a rear tire blow earlier this year, so I too have been through the roadside assistance/flat bed tow. It is just part of owning these cars. For tire pressures on the street, I run 34 psi on all 4 corners. I have a fairly aggressive alignment and this helps a lot with tire wear on the street without being too harsh. BTW, when I had my 996 I never ran the Porsche recommended 36/44 psi on the street. Ride was terrible. I always ran 38-40 out back. Just experiment and figure out what works best for you.

29psi front/ 33 psi rear, GT2. That's what I run even with the wider front street tires with soft sidewalls. On the track I run Cups at the recommended hot temps as per Michelin guidelines.

Yeah, I've come to grips that the tire pressures probably didn't have anything to do with the incident...it was a piece of steel that cut into the tire.

But, I will have to give a plug to Power Porsche in Newport Beach. My car was towed by Porsche's roadside service, I got a new Michelin PSS installed by around 1pm the next day, and the total came to $432. The tire alone is $420 from Tirerack. I'm extremely impressed with the overall dealership experience.

PAG has been steadily reducing cold tire pressure recs. The 991 (light load and <160MPH) is 31/34.

PAG uses now 2 criteria: load and sustained speed.
