What do the piston pucks do and can you run without them?
Is it to limit heat transfer? They are kind of a nuisance.
Can you get rid of them altogether? If its a noise suppression thing, I don't really care. |
Dunno what pucks are - please explain.
Another question: how about the thin metal backing plate on the pads, with the adhesive. Is there any utility to keeping these on the pads? |
Not the puck Dog...we left those in..the yellow ceramic round deals are the pucks....we took out the anti squeal round metal deals ...that were rusted.

I'm with you. I'm referring to the yellow ceramic pucks we kept having to stuff back in on the bottom pistons. What a nuisance.
Can the car be run without them? If it's a heat thing, they stay. If it's a noise thing, they go. |
The ceramic pucks should always be used since they do not like to transer heat to your calipers. If you strugled to put in new brake pads it is because the rubber seals that hold in the little ceramic donuts are old and cooked. What used to be soft and rubbery turns to a crunchy plastic like a water bottle and then it no longer holds the ceramic in place. (when swapping rake pads) replace the rubber seals and your problem is solved for one or two years.

I have the puck holders ... one more thing for monday. live and learn dawg :)

He has the yellow pucks still in his calipers...2 fell out and I put them back in. He still had the anti squeal shims which I took out.
I also told him to go get his rubber piston seals replaced as all of them were rotted or missing. |
the puck holders from motorsport 997.352.086.91
think they are about $4 each and you need 20 |
do they need replacement every time pads are changed?

Right tools and upgrades (studs) should fit both bills. |
