Best solution for data acquisition
Hi all
Am currently using a Racelogic PerformanceBox for data acquisition. Easily the best purchase I have ever made for DE as its given me a way to record my performance, progress, and review my data.
However, its getting time where I need more parameters - namely, brake pressure, throttle position, and steering angle.
I know there are a ton of solutions out there, but I would appreciate a walk through of what people have found best.

I am a fan of racekeeper. TPS is taken off OBD, but you can hook up other sensors. When I start driving F1 level I'll concern myself with steering angle and pedal pressures

Motec have new platforms specifically for our cars. They plug into the car's comms socket and pick up all data... You get a dash mount screen similar to cup car that suction cups to windscreen although the mechanics at our drive day said they could easily be velcroed or similar into place over dash dials... Lap timing was via Gps rather than beacon and they retailed for about $3-4k AUS...

I am right in the same boat as the OP -->this threads really of interest to me at the moment because as soon as i get my damn exhaust my next thing to pickup is the data system

I have been taking back and forth with someone from Motec for while now about this. I am thinking about getting it.

same company and same idea but alittle different options and so on...m3evobr your talking about the cup one and you are correct it is 9k
and its here --> http://store.apexspeedtech.com/motec-adl3-digital-dash I guess Motec has a number of options. If porsche puts it into the cups it must be a good data aquisition and screen and with a couple of cost options your covered with Motec.

For DE use and club racing...Race Keeper or Traqmate are perfect

Googled the cdl3 for local pricing and its under AUS$3k... Not bad imo considering it hooks up to OBD port and picks up much of the data directly from the car 's comp...hopefully minimising the messing about with wiring... And the screen is fantastic for viewing car's vital signs and lap times in one...

I like the idea of plugging into OBD. Saves fiddling around with ECU.
PerformanceBox is a pretty good device. I get laptimes, predictive, GPS. I download to CircuitTools and I get a circuit overlay, I can compare laps, sectors, the works. Its very good. What I can't do is when comparing two laps/sectors/corners is see what I am doing with steering/throttle/brake (yes, LatG/LongG can help you guess, but its not enough) but to complete what I am trying to do I'd like the driver inputs.

2nd on AIM stuff.
I have an AIM Evo4 + Mychron + Smartycam setup. It was easy to setup (did it myself) once my AIM dealer provided me with the OBD harness to get CAN data via the OBD port. No HD available but the videos are probably the best-looking out of any non-HD system I've used, and the built-in mic results in sound that is much better than any of the other systems' built-in mics. The software is very advanced, and definitely much more than I'll ever need for DE events, but there is plenty of data available for novices as well as race teams to be analyzed to your hearts' content.
Sample vid from road america event I did last year:
