Creaking from Clutch 997.1 GT3RS

Hi Chaps

The clutch in the RS has developed a problem if i'm not mistaken. Clutch doesn't slip and shifts from gear to gear ok but half way down the travel of the clutch pedal - it's gets very stiff and you can hear a "creaking" under the car as soon as the clutch pedal hit's this "stiff" point.

Any ideas? Is the clutch hydraulic or cable? Clutch fork?

The wing of the throwout bearing has broken off. Stop driving it NOW and get it to your dealer/favorite shop for repair before more damage occurs.

Same happened to me!

I expect this will become the new coolant fitting/LSD/beveled-pad/2-3 shift issue du jour as more folks amass track use as you and I have. The frequent clutch use seems to highlight another weak point Porsche should have identified back in the 996 cars.

Bloody hell. Wish i'd known sooner - been out fot a 50 mile drive today :-(

The car's been like this for a couple of months.

A guess it's a case of the dealer replacing the complete clutch assembly? Any idea of costs? $3000 US / £2000 UK GBP?

Would this be linked to my starter motor problem? Every third or fourth attempt at starting and all i get is a "clicK". Move the car in and out of gear a few times / depress clutch a few times and it starts ok.

What other damage is likely to occur?

Candellara 02-27-2012 07:36 AM

Spoken to my Dealer. Car will be recovered into them later in the week.

Worst case scenario is a complete clutch + a flywheel if damaged (which i guess no doubt it will be?

Still awaiting costs

Not being flip or insensitive (I've been in your shoes) but relax and let the scenario play out and accept the cost of whatever it turns out to be :crying:

And perhaps I am totally incorrect in my .2 cent diagnosis and you just need to bleed out some air from the lines? ;)

My .2 car had identical problem - turned out to be clutch slave cylinder, and of course I had to replace clutch assembly as well.

+1 clutch slave cyliner replacement (.1) - two weeks ago.

Guys,

Update. Porsche emailed today saying nothing is broken. Clutch is heavily worn. Flywheel and ring gear is in good condition. Clutch fork and slave are ok

They are sure that a clutch replacement will solve my problems.?

As for the starter motor issue (doesn't engage every time). They said it only happended to them 1 out of 10 starts but starter is covered in clutch dust and will be cleaned thoroughly before re-assembly

Worried that i'll still have a very heavy clutch pedal from half way down and the associated creaking noise - even after a new clutch assembly

Any advice guys?

Further update guys.

Porsche installed a new clutch assembly, sleeve and cleaned up / lubricated the clutch fork bearings. According to them - all is good and the clutch operation is A1

Their thoughts were that the clutch has got extremely hot at some point and affected the springs / diaphragm causing the stiff pedal / creaking.

Will pick the car up later in the week and report my findings

Collected car today. All back to normal. Car is great :-)

Just required complete clutch
