Considering we drive Sebring 98 percent of the time, I think this would be a good solution. For the few times a year we go somewhere else, then we just go pick them up. Win win. I'd love to just trailer this damn thing, but no tow vehicle and no where to store the trailer. Not to mention I really don't want to deal with the maintenance of a trailer either.
Drew, what am I supposed to do when going to Homestead? Drive to Sebring, swap the wheels then go back all the way to Homestead?

If I had a second set of wheels then I'd definitely vote for it.

Is driving on the street considered a heat cycle? (I know, it's a stupid question but I'm curious since I don't want them to HC out while driving to and from the track)

TIA!
Yes street driving is 1 heat cycle for R6 and also for Toyo RA1 or R888 too.

it is not that bad to driv on them to a track if you got smooth road all the way. what kills them really bad is if you got scraped off sections where construction goes - that literally takes off rubber very fast.

if you sure want to drive on slicks to track - do not use R6 - get V710 kumhos instead. 245/40 with 315/35 have correct sizes for 997 cars. they will last 2 times longer than R6s and will give you quite comparable grip.

I went ahead and ordered a set of rears from Phil. They were $330 shaved, plus shipping. Each.

Honestly, at these prices, I'm definitely moving to Hoosiers for sure. However, I have a fairly fresh set of RA1 fronts and rears, so it would be crazy not to blow through a couple sets of rears and then trash the whole set for Hooters.

Wish I could have scored some of the cheap RA1's deals that used to be out there. Phil's wife said Toyo is only making them for spec sizes (miata, etc), and the prices on the remaining GT3 sizes have skyrocketed due to supply and demand.

She also mentioned something about the R888's. She said that the US got the medium (harder) compound, compared to the Euro market who got the softer compound that is supposed to be just like the RA1. It would be interesting to see if any of our overseas members have tried them. Shame the dollar sucks as it would be great to bring a container of the Euro R888's over if they really were as good as they are supposed to be.

Actualy in those sizes the rear is smaller in diameter and that will not work on a 997 based car.

997 cars have the rear diameter larger than the front. It is very important that it stays this way for ABS and so forth to work properly.

If you use a 315/30.18 rear on a 997 you need a 255/35/18 front. 2450/40/18 fronts work with 305/35/18 rears.

That is iteresting because the Toyo rep told me the R888 and RA1 have the same rubber compound...called GG. The R888 is different in that the side walls are stiffer and the tread blocks larger and do not disapate heat as quick. Also I believe the R888 GG rubber compoud is put on the ire differently that the RA1 GG rubber compund.

Finally financial justification to buy a '10RS, or any 997 RS ;-)

Considering I heard you and Randy started a new internet company called "RA1'S4RS'S", I know I could at least get good tires cheap!

I just contacted my guy at Champion, he looked around for his suppliers. He couldn't find any.

I called the tire place that was listed by the OP, and ordered a set of rears! Thank you so much for the lead
