Default Is a 997.2 GT3 worth $20K More than 997.1GT3

Hey guys,

I'm tossed between two cars.

First car: Mint 2007 GT3 997.1
Second car: Mint 2010 GT3 997.2

Both less than 3000 miles, both steel brakes, both warranted. Both never tracked (know the owners) The 997.2 has 1 1/2 years more in warranty. Both same color (white). Basically same options (low on both cars) The 997.2 has dynamic engine mounts. Price difference is $20,000.
Is the 997.2 worth that much more?

Thanks,
James

That question is endlessly debated here, but I think in these types of cars you have to make the emotional decision based on which car really speaks to you. Both are fantastic.

If you are a really serious track junkie you might get more "value" out of the newer car in that it's more capable out of the box and should be quicker around a track.

But if you are just driving them to enjoy them, then buy the one you like more. The 3.8 has a punchier midrange, an updated interior, and various other small tweaks.

Bottom line, I don't think you can attribute a dollar value to the differences in the GT cars.

If you can budget the newer car, get it.

if you are on a budget, get the 997.1.

20k is a large spread for me. Id go for the 997.1 and enjoy 20k elsewhere.... both cars are back to back on the track depending on driver.

997.1 5 lug is not so bad to have either

I chose the 997.2 obviously, but as said, it was more emotional and not logical at all. I have been more than satisfied, even just having the extra warranty. I think the technical updates/upgrades are again dependent on the driver, but having them never hurts. If you are stretching with the add'l 20K, I recommend the 997.1, IMHO the 997.2 costs more to run on the track, but not on the street.

Keep in mind they both are dropping in value. I found when I bought my 08 that the prices were 10k less in 6mos.....just something to think about. Buy what you feel you can afford...and if tracking it is your thing...think about what you will spend to make it better for tracking, which when you sell it, is mostly unrecoupable.

Most cars drop. I would think the 997.1 will drop a lot less then the 997.2.

If you can afford the latest and greatest, go ahead and get the .2. If it's bothering your gut on spending that kind of money. Then you will be more than satisfied with .1

having had both of them and the difference (options etc being equal) get the .2 if you can afford it.

The .2 handling & aero is better, engine is a little more powerful, PDEM and front axle lift are required.
