The biggest competition for a used GT2 is a new 997.2 Turbo or a new GT3 RS. Just because they sold for $200K when new does not necessarily make them a good deal at $130K.

The GT3 RS is a better track car (unless you are a professional driver) due to the normally aspirated engine, and the linear power curve. The 997.2 Turbo is as fast (or faster) as the GT2 to about 160 mph, and is a better daily driver.

Here is a link to a 2008 GT2 with 9 miles. The original MSRP was $229K! The asking price is $165,888, and that's probably wishful thinking.

they are not "beginner track day" cars because 500+ HP cars for beginners = "please don't hit the wall....CRAP. DAMMIT."

that being said- I'd love to flog a GT2 around despite my general derision of turbo engines. they're fun as hell. if you get them aligned properly they're not widow makers- they're like the motorcycle of 911's. it's all about how safe and under control you can be with your throttle application. The new 997 ones are basically GT3s with turbos in terms of how they're set up, so they're plenty grippy and surefooted.

Well said!
I have my car up to 600HP/600TQ, home track is Mosport and it's a joy to drive, you just have to be a bit slower rolling on the throttle where as with the GT3RS you need to be more aggressive.

When I am in the .2 GT3RS it feels like it's dead power wise...handling is similar.

I have had Zero issues tracking the GT2...it usualy is the fastest street car at the track and that's with me driving it at max 8/10.

From what I know of recent transactions.....that is 1) a new low, 2) not necessarily indicative of the 997 gt2 market in general.
My thoughts are that buyers at Bonhams are there for the specialty cars....not many people are going to seek out an auction in Monterey for a "mass-produced" modern street car, so cars like that are going to sell for less than on the open market.....I've seen it before.

A number of you indicated you would have paid at least that number, and I have one client looking for the exact car that would have paid a fair bit more than that.....whoever picked it up certainly got a steal.

You going to the Rennlist day at Mosport on the 15th? It's in the Canadian section.

Yeah, got to look into 6th gear.
