Default GT3 Finally at port

Well, the eagle landed this morning and dropped the car in Houston. Should have the car here in San Antonio next week. Only problem was the wheels did not get painted black

So, I found a local shop that does wheel refinishing that said they can make them black in 24 hours for $135 per wheel. What do you guys think? Not sure if they powder coat or paint (forgot to ask), but seems pretty cheap. Should I be worried? Any of you have previous experience with paint vs powder coating? What questions should I be asking these guys before I drop off $8000 worth of wheels to them?

I would just ask what kind of cars they usually do wheels for...

my buddy got his m5 wheels painted flat black and they still look good 2 years later

I had a local Porsche dealer refinish and repaint mine for $150/ea so $135/ea from the source doesn't sound too bad.

Maybe ask for references?

Thanks for the advice, guys.

Sounds like you just saved $3000!
Odd thing is, it was a $1630 option on the 2010 GT3, and the dealer couldn't tell me if it was available at all on the 2011. I know it is available as a special (expensive) option on the RS. Oh well, like you said, I saved money. My only concern is the durability. Then again, I guess for that price I could have them repainted every year and still come out ahead.

If your question is about durability, then one thing to consider is, are the wheels painted or powdercoated from the factory? If they are painted from the factory, then what is the difference between wheels painted from the factory and wheels painted at a local shop (which I assume have painted many wheels)?

Yeah, that's what I didn't know. If they are painted at the factory, then I won't worry about it.

Got mine done in Houston by Porsche West at Collision Plus 2 because factory wasn't painting them yet. Only since Oct 09.
