Exclamation GT3 ... with a AMG badge

So my question is what does it take for a car to be badged as a GT3? Lighter, more powerful and track oriented than it's street sibling? ... and most importantly a moster rear wing your mother can be proud of. Well, if that is the case, Mercedes has one - SLS AMG GT3

Skip to 1:05 on the first video unless you like to watch Mercedes van commercial lol

At what point do we say a wing is too large ... larger than the car itself?

GT3 is a class of European GT racing and this car is homologated for it. The Z4 GT3 and R8 GT3 are also nice. The new Cup S 911 is the Porsche entry.

FIA-GT3 is an older class than the Porsche GT3 itself, Porsche named the car after the FIA class, same as the GT2 and GT1. There is now a GT4 class, so another name tag for a future Porsche (Cayman LW?).

There is a F430 GT3 (I bought a Moton suspension from this program a year ago), multiple BMW models, R8 GT3, expect to see a McLaren MP4-12 GT3, SLS GT3.

It is the class with the closest resemblance to the street cars, due to the engine rules. All the development applied in GT3 helps improved the road cars.

OK - So I understand why a 911 needs a big wing (engine at back). So why do all these so called perfectly balanced cars need 747 sized wings at the back? It almost looks a bit poseur-ish.

In racing, , there are many factors to consider, Aero design is not just to compensate weight imbalance. You always want to be able to have more downforce (balanced downforce, I mean)

All cars need aerodynamic downforce for high speed lateral loads regardless of the motor location.

Looks like a huge wing is a must for this class
