Here is a video of SLS AMG driven by Bernd Schneider 5X DTM world champion at Laguna Seca. Time: 1:40.74 ... pretty slow consider it was driven by a professional. There was a long pause when ask if he like to have one included in his personal collection lol. " ... best sports car I ever driven ..." Yeah right

The SLS looks like a good GT contender. It will certainly bring some excitement to the GT3 International circuit as will the Z4 GT3.

You do realize that wings=weight in downforce terms.

The 911 needs a large wing because of it's shape rather than the position of its engine. the shape of the car is, in fact, very much like the shape of an airplane wing. As you can imagine that means a 911 becomes more unstable as speed rises. More so than a wedge-shaped vehicle like an F430 (which also has extensive underbody aerodynamics).

Of course. But why is it that wings are so huge in this series, but yet they don't use wings like this in other high speed events?

Because the rules allow them to be.

It does seem like faint praise given a pro driver (and good amateur drivers in a996 GT3 with coil-overs and slicks have AMB times of 1:40) but I still think it's an astonishingly impressive car. This Mercedes and the forthcoming McLaren raise the bar.

There's no room in this market for a mediocre $200K GT2 -- Porsche has to answer these competitors with the 918 in this $175K-225K price bracket.

And for something a little different, the Morgan SuperSports GT3
