When I needed tires, I was very suprised by the fact that my Porsche dealer was able to beat both of their prices.

In a nutshell, you're wrong. Dry grip might be within 2%, but wet grip is a VERY different story. As is tire life. Almost the exact same tire? Not even close.

I've got maybe 10,000 track miles and another 50,000 street miles on PS2s, 18" real cups, and 19" Porsche Faux-Cups. Burned through 4 sets of the N 19s on my 3 997 Porsches including the GT3 with probably 6 days in the wet / rain. I stopped using the PS2s as my rain track tire because the 19" cup was almost just as good (and my TraqMate data backed that up with lateral and braking Gs in the wet very comparable, but yes, PS2 was better in wet). Naturally, the less tread the worse they got in the wet. As for tread life, I don't know how some people are only getting 5000 miles out of a set of 19" Cups, they can last just as long as the PS2. Maybe those that eat them up have poor alignments, are burning out, etc.

I really don't understand how you can say that the Cups can last as long as the PS2s. Aside from countless reports to the contrary, the teadwear indicator on the Cup is 80 verses 220 for the PS2.

Just telling you what my experience is. 80 vs. 220 doesn't really mean much... When I've used 19" Faux-cups on street only, they've worn just as well as 19" PS2s. May'be I've been very particular about my alignments, easy on my tires, etc. Traqmate data showed me the grip caracteristics in the dry were basically exactly the same, so it would make sense to me that wear would be very similar. Obviously, open to interpretation, your own personal experience, etc.

Just looking over my records now. With the PS2's on my GT3, I got 13,400 out of the rear tires & 24,300 out of the fronts. Mostly street driving, with around 12 track days.

I've never heard of anyone coming near that mileage with cup tires.

Very different cars, but our (2) Boxster Ss get about 16-18,000 on the rears and 24-26,000 on the fronts with MPSCs in mostly street driving, whether 17" or 18" (stock sizes).

The wife's car (no track time on either set of 18's) got the same mileage out of the PS2s she replaced them with.
