* 997 GT3 REPLACEMENT discs - GiroDiscs. Comprehensive information & pictures*
****Title of post is/was 996TT - because the pictured discs are indeed that model. 996 GT2/GT3 disc same dia and hat section slightly different****
Company verbage & information: GiroDisc is a brake technology company that is dedicated to the development and manufacturing of high quality brake components and brake systems. GiroDisc products are designed and engineered for both street and track applications with a comprehensive product line of two-piece floating rotors that are designed to be a direct replacement for the factory rotors. The two-piece floating rotor will improve braking performance, reduce unsprung weight and utilizes the factory calipers and e-brake. Unlike many “big brake” packages on the market, GiroDisc rotors also retain the factory brake bias and outstanding pedal feel. High quality construction and premium grade materials provide improved wear, increased rotor life, minimized coning and greater cooling efficiency. Note how the slotting is *properly* done with tapered ends and plenty of edge margin. These represent good value, readily available replacement parts, and amongst the highest quality in the industry. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ PORSCHE 996 GT3 ROTOR PACKAGES TO REPLACE THE OEM STEEL ROTORS: SIZE: Front: Factory 350 mm/GiroDisc 350 mm Rear: Factory 330 mm/GiroDisc 350 mm WEIGHT: Front: Factory 25.6 lbs./GiroDisc 22.4 lbs. Bringing this thread back... :) you have e-mail regarding a quote request.
|
Got er and replied - avg. increase in longevity is 2 1/2 times - last ring change was 3x + (9 to 28, OEM to Giro) That's big.
|
What about 2011 gt3?
|
Craig can you please provide details on the fitment for C/L applications and pad choices given the narrow annulus? Kindly PM me on pricing assuming an MY11 GT3RS. I'm interested in your full-floating setup and whatever is the lightest. Thanks!
|
Both '10 & '11. Maybe I've got the Sunday snoozies, but to what do you refer to as C/L -
|
Center locks ... 2010 GT3's use 380mm rotors.
|
Oh of course :-) I thought it was something deeper than that -
These feature REPLACEABLE rotor rings vs. OEM of which you toss the ENTIRE expensive thing... They take a Pagid part number made for them, no problem. Same price too. Say au revoir to holed rotors... 2010 & 2011 same |
Ok so they are made in 380mm, but could I use just a ''regular'' pad, or for example PFC pad without any modification ?
|
Only OEM takes the 8004 pad of the stock rotors. These take a pad that is NOT cut to fit - it is a part number for these rotors that we get through Pagid. Easy availability.
|
|
Just sent you a PM Criag.

After
Note these are apparently the ultra super special bottom mount calipers with the side pull suspension option ;) https://rennlist.com/forums/attachme...ics-giroon.jpg |
Oops, sorry for the typo. Meant "Craig".
|
Wish Giro made these for center lock Carrera GTS....wonder if GR3 hats fit the Carrera S disc that Giro has?
|
I can use the oem pads with PFC rotors. I don't use paid pads anymore, my question is if I can use endless or pfc pads with those totes without trimming.
Tks |
997.1 uses OEM size, 997.2 uses special pads as do all aftermarket rotors - easy availability from Pagd, didicated pt #

AP and PFC use stock size pads |
2010 & up Gt3? PFC takes specific pads IIRC -

PFC dimpled rotors have a swept depth of about 64mm and use OEM pads without a problem... Mine is at the dealer having them installed and oem pads fitted as we speak....
PFC slotted require a narrower pad as they have a swept depth of 60mm.... Both PFC brake ring types fit the same hat so you can switch between the two also... |
For .2 GT3 cars...PFC is the way to go...period.
|
roughly what is the cost for a set of PFC in 380mm for a .1RS?
how about the rears which I believe are 350mm? ballpark? are they in the same neighborhood as brembos? |

Less than Brembo by a fair margin I'd say... Izzone and Trakcar may be able to give you a good idea for cost in the US. I paid AUS$1000 a corner for the fronts from the local distributor. The oem would have cost me $1100 per corner....

Pros and Cons of "dimpled" over "slotted" in cost, durability, brake feel etc.? And what pads are best to go with, OEMs or PFC's? (That's for a 7.2GT3 mostly track-only car). My OEM fronts are almost gone with "spiders" creeping to the outside in 17 t-days. I liked the feel of the OEM brakes and they didn't really fade much but then again I have no comparo since I just started last year :-). I just wonder if there are some longer-lasting rotors/pads combos available. Tx, Horst.
The oem pads have a depth of 62-63mm so if you intend on sticking with the oem pads, you will need to go dimpled like me... I intend on moving on to slotteds (swapping friction rings) and PF08 pads when my driving abilities on the track warrant it... Trakcar and Izzone have used both variants of these rotors and have had much success with them... The rotors definitely outlast the oem rotors from what I've seen... Cost difference between slotted and dimpled is negligible... less than 5% difference IIRC... |
2013:
All in and ready - BOTH 997.1 & 997.2 |
Only 10 days until the SLOTTED rotors are done in machining and zinc plate! Then, ready to roll........
|
New batch ready to roll.....literally :-)
|
A couple years ago, 996 GT3 350mm fronts could be swapped for ATE's (@~$200ea), while the steel 2010 PMS GT3 380mm rotors are still $500ea, and yes the drill holes spider crack (er, did). I've been out of it, but figured I'd ask if there has yet been a slotted/dimpled one-piece solution for 997.1 GT3 OE Ceramic cars? No hats.
|
Slotted avail for those cars.
350mm ready to ship, 380mm done machining next week and then ready to roll ! |
Finishing up the 380mm this week, 350 ready to build

Craig - I have a 2012 991 C2S. I have been running OEM rotors at DEs and recently switched to Pagid RS29 pads. Been thinking about Girodisk rotors, but unsure what I can expect in terms of life vs OEM rotors. I run in the PCA intermediate group - and will be at Pacific Raceways on Oct 1 for the DE. Can you PM me a price for front and front/rear Giro disk rotors and some info on expected life vs OEMs based on real world experience? Thx! Kirk
|
Sure! PM is next. Have fun at Pacific, you really feel like 'you are going somewhere' on this track vs some others -
|
BuMp for fall -
|
Good time of year to work on the car - consider a set of these upgraded rotors
|
Replaced PCCB's with GyroDiscs, thanks Craig!
I DD my GT3 and track it 4-6 weekends per year, I was ready to switch over to another brake disc. After XX k miles, I'm considering getting the PCCB's refurbished in the new year.
After researching a bit decided to go with GyroDiscs as a direct PCCB replacement. Great to work with Craig, quick responses to my questions, really good advice on pad selection (kept OE type PCCB pads) and quick delivery (shipped same day, arrived in TX 3 days later). I have had the GyroDiscs on the GT3 for about 1 month now and am happy with the brake feel (nice and firm) and no brake noise when DD. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...c1297cb09d.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...02ced604f1.jpg I haven't tracked the car yet on GD's, looking forward to it in the spring! |

Inquire about Pkg pricing -
|
Hi. I bought two 350 mm for my 7.1 GT3 in a distributor, but in the periodic inspection they ask me for a document from the manufacturer that indicates that it is a spare part equivalent to the OEM. This is in Spain. Does anyone have that document?
I have written to Girodisc, but there is no answer. |
