Default Need your help

997 (2007 and 2008) GT3 and GT3RS owners. Please look in your owners manual and tell me the page and statement that concerns oil pressure. It is most probably on page 85 unless either the manual has changed in the 2008 production year and or you have a 997 Carrera or Carrera S manual and then it may be on page 105. Please print the statement in your post as printed and also let me know what your oil pressure is reading at normal cruise 2800-3000 RPM at normal operating Temp which should be 200 degress+or - gauge error. Thanks in advance and I really appreciate the help on this. I would be of special help to get at least one post from a late 2008 production car and manual. Thanks again.

Thanks Frank. Mine is a 2007 (July 2007 production) at 2200 RPM my gauge pegs at 5 bars and remains there the dealer put a calibrated gauge on the engine at the oil filter ( the sender for the in dash gauge is at the base of the oil filter) and at 3000 RPM it read 6 bars. That is a full one bar above the maximum reading of the in dash gauge and at 5000 RPM it read 7.5 bars again well above the in dash gauge maximum reading. My owners manual by the way on page 85 states at 3000 RPM (normal operating temp the reading should be aprox 3.5 bars. Sounds like your car is right on the money. Hopefully others will chime as I need as much data as possible. Thanks again

I paid attention driving around town today. The oil pressure gauge stays pegged anytime the car is in gear with the clutch out. It does not matter if I and accelerating or coasting. My 07 manual also says 3.5 bar, but it says with the engine at a speed of 3000 RPM. It does not clarify whether that is in neutral or in gear.

PS: I have already had the front main seal replaced!

I really need some more data from owners. My reason is, My dealer has gone to Porsche NA with the issue and they have said the the oil pressure gauge pegged at all times is normal even though the owners manual says differently. I have mentioned that an engine instrument pegged at maximum during normal operation is not normal and in fact is worthless. Again they stated it was normal so I asked that their position be put in writing to protect me and my warranty should I have an engine related oil issue. Again they refused which allows them an out from warranty coverage. My car sits at the dealer awaiting resolution. That said I ask again for as many responses as possible to my initial question so hopefully a resolution can be forthcoming from Porsche NA that will benefit us all. I had initially planned to keep the GT3 and enjoy it for years.

PS my '83 SC which is a track vehile for me and was for the previous owner has over 130,000 mile on it , the engine does not leak, has never been opened, still meets horsepower and valve leak standards and its oil pressure still right on what the owners manual defines.

I don't have access to my '07 RS right this instant, but I know the oil pressure pegs at 5, under power.
At idle it returns to 1.5.
I have an early '07 build...so far no RMS issue...but, there is some oil film on the bottom of the rear of the case, during Winter storage.

I am surprised that more have not posted. I can only guess that the majority of owners are either not concerned with a pegged oil pressure gauge or their gauges read as per the owner's manual either way mine is pegged all the time above 2000 RPM and a calibrated gauge and readings taken by my service department confirm that the normal operating oil pressure at 3000 RPM (normal operating temp.) on my engine is greater than the gauge can read i.e. its' pegged. I'm simple trying to gather data to see how many other owners GT3's and GT3RS's are like that so comments are appreciated. Thanks

I gave you what was written in the manual, I have not checked it for sure but I am thinking that mine is also pegged all the time except at idol. Are you running the recommended oil 0W40??

Yes I'm using Mobile 1 0-40 as per the manual, and there has been one oil change during the second RMS installation and it was done by the dealer. The central issue here is the owners manual states that at 3000 RPM the oil pressure should read 3.5 bars aprox. My gauge is pegged above 2000 RPM and as measured on a calibrated gauge at the dealership and under the guidance of a Porsche Field Technical Manager the actual oil pressure at 3000 is 6 Bars. Remember the gauage installed in our cars only reads to 5 bars so during normal, or spirited driving the gauge is worthless and there is no way to monitor oil pressure. That is not right in any vehicle especially a Porsche designed for spirited driving and track use. I'm awaiting a response from Porsche NA and my car remains at the dealership.

I thought about your gauge problem while driving today, so this is what it showed today:
engine fully hot after two hours of driving
measured on level road
OAT indicated 24 degrees C, no clouds and hot sun
at 2000 rmp pressure was 3,5 bar
at 2500 rpm pressure was 4,5 bar
after 2700 rpm pressure is at 5 bar

My car is a GT3, MY 08, built in August 2007, no oil leakage at all, currently has 13.000 km and is after it´s first oil change. Runs exclusively on 100 octane gas from the first day and is always being warmed up and cooled down very gently for its weekly day out.

If you need to know more, please tell. I want to help because it sucks having a GT3 here with troubles.

Forgot one critical piece of information, the engine was hot, but not overheated in any way. In other words, the oil temperature showed the standard 95 degrees C.

I appreciate the information. While your readings are not exactly what the manual says at least you are able to see any abnormal trends in the oil pressure as the readings are all within the range of the gauge. Mine are not and thus an opening for Porsche to void a warranty should any oil related engine malfunctions occur. Still hoping that other owners will chime in. My sole purpose is to resolve an issue, make Porsche look good and thus we can all continue to enjoy these outstanding cars.

... My 2007 GT3 oil pressure was always pegged above 3000 rpm. RMS leaked at 700 miles (changed at 900 miles) more oil on the floor at 2000 miles... Sold it back to the dealer.

Sorry you had to get rid of it, however I am close to the same decision with the oil pressure issue and I'm on my third RMS, probably would have been more but the dealer convinced me to wait until after the break-in to replace the first one. Car only has 3000 miles on it now.

By the way i guess you are a pilot from the way you listed your location. Take care and what are you driving now?

Nothing as exciting as an F4! ...Helicopters in a previous life and Citations now.

My GT2 should be on the water, as we speak. Hope to see it in two/three weeks. Hopefully, no RMS issues with this one or I am done with Porsche.
